The armed drill team has traveled to some very well-known competitions around our area. The armed drill team goes through intense training in order to exceed beyond the expectations that have been set for them. The drill team also participates in local parades and ceremonies performing their exhibition routines. We hope to accomplish bigger and greater things in the future with our upcoming leaders.
The Somerset High School unarmed drill team has also participated in well-known competitions around our area, and have received many awards. The team to this day, is still going strong with their outstanding exhibition routines and their new, fully committed team.
The color guard has attended special events such as Houston Texans, San Antonio Spurs, and Silver Stars games. When attending these the Somerset JROTC color guard proudly presents our nations colors in honor of those who have fought to protect it. The color guard has made their way to nationals in Daytona Florida, and has also competed in local competitions. We are proud of how far our color guard has come.
The rifle team has grown throughout the years and has done exceptionally well in all the rifle matches they have participated in. The team practices everyday, working on their BRASS; Breath, Relax, Aim, Sight, and Squeeze. To practice these skills and master them takes time and patience. Our rifle team has the discipline, motivation, and dedication it takes to go beyond just mastering those skills.
The fitness team is all about being fit and healthy. The members of this team workout three days a week, every week, in order to prepare for fitness matches and competitions. The team currently consists of male team members and one female. These cadets wake up bright and early just to get a dose of a good work out before attending their regularly scheduled classes.
A small, but very motivated team, the orienteering team has placed in a number of events and meets. Our orienteering team has to use their navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and hazardous terrain, while attempting to finish in a limited time. Whether shooting azimuths or running in groups of four around campus, the orienteering team trains to win every competition they attend.
Raiders are among the very athletic cadets in the Battalion. The Raiders attend challenging competitions designed to test the limits of the cadet's physique and perseverance. This team is specialized in training in a style that are the equivalent of Army ROTC "Rangers" and use this training to take on any challenge.
The Sabre Guard have become an excellent touch to every event they perform. The Sabre Guard have performed at our Annual Military Ball, Homecoming Coronation Ceremony, and many other events.
Made up by the smartest and brightest of the Battalion and Somerset High School, the Academic Team competes with other schools across San Antonio and the State of Texas. The biggest event is the JROTC Academic Bowl, where a team of four students, plus two alternates, are given the chance to compete with schools across the nation, for a chance to compete in the JROTC Academic Championship in Washington D.C.
Our Leadership Team is made up of the most knowledgeable of cadets about the JROTC Curriculum and demonstrate a high degree of leadership in the Battalion. Along with the Academic Team, a group of four cadets plus two alternates, compete in the Leadership Bowl, for a chance to compete in Washington D.C.
