SunFinder is an astronomy application that helps users explore the positions and movements of the Sun and Moon, sunrise and sunset times, moon phases, sky events, augmented reality views, 3D visualizations, and historical sky conditions.
SunFinder does not require users to create an account.
This Privacy Policy explains what information SunFinder accesses, how that information is used, where it is stored, and when information may be processed by third-party services.
SoSunFinder luna is designed with a data-minimization approach. Core astronomy calculations and most application functionality are performed locally on your device.
Depending on the features you use, SunFinder may access or process:
Approximate device location
Camera access for augmented-reality features
Device orientation information from supported sensors
Coordinates entered manually by the user
Information processed by Google Mobile Ads (AdMob)
Information processed by Google Play when the in-app review feature is used
Information required by Android to provide notifications, alarms, sharing, and other platform functionality
SunFinder luna does not require an account and does not ask users to provide their name, phone number, contacts, or login credentials.
When you choose to use your device location, SunFinder requests approximate location permission.
SunFinder uses location information to provide location-dependent astronomy features, including:
Sun position
Moon position
Sunrise and sunset
Moonrise and moonset
Solar noon
Twilight and golden hour
Sun and Moon altitude and azimuth
Sky Navigator and AR positioning
3D Earth visualization
Sky Cards
Astronomy reminders and notifications
Other location-dependent astronomical calculations
SunFinder una requests only approximate location permission. It does not request precise location or background location permission.
The App keeps the latest location information locally on the device to support its functionality. It does not intentionally maintain a history of previous locations.
Where applicable, stored location information is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
SunFinder does not intentionally provide your stored latitude, longitude, place name, or astronomy calculations to its advertising SDK for custom advertising targeting.
However, certain location-related functionality may involve Android's platform geocoding service, as described below.
SunFinder requests camera permission only when you use features that require augmented reality.
The camera is used to provide the live camera view behind astronomical overlays, allowing you to view Sun and Moon directions in an augmented-reality experience.
SunFinder luna does not use the camera to:
Take photographs
Record videos
Store camera images or videos
Upload camera images or videos to Soluna servers
Analyze camera images for unrelated purposes
Camera information used for the AR experience is not intentionally transmitted to Soluna's servers.
If camera permission is denied, features requiring the camera may not function, while other astronomy features remain available.
SunFinder uses supported device orientation information, including the Android rotation-vector sensor, for features such as the AR experience and Sky Navigator.
Sensor information is used to determine the orientation of the device so that astronomical objects can be positioned appropriately relative to the user's view.
Sensor information used by SunFinder for these features is processed locally and is not intentionally stored as a history or transmitted to Soluna's servers.
When you tap the Update button to detect or update your location, SunFinder obtains your approximate device location using Android's location services.
SunFinder may then use Android's platform geocoding service to convert the obtained geographic coordinates into a readable place name, such as a city or locality name.
The resulting place name is used only to display your location within the App and to support location-related features.
Depending on the device and Android implementation, the geocoding service may be provided by Google or another platform provider and may require network access.
The handling of information by the platform geocoding provider is governed by that provider's own privacy practices.
SunFinder does not intentionally send your location coordinates to its advertising SDK for custom advertising targeting.
SunFinder performs its core astronomical calculations locally on your device using an astronomy calculation library included with the App.
These calculations may include:
Sun position
Moon position
Sunrise and sunset
Moonrise and moonset
Solar noon
Twilight
Golden hour
Moon phase
Sun and Moon altitude and azimuth
Sun and Moon paths
Historical sky calculations
3D Earth visualization
Other astronomical information
SunFinder does not require an external astronomy or weather API to perform its core astronomical calculations.
SunFinder may provide optional astronomy reminders, such as golden hour and moonrise notifications.
These reminders are enabled by the user.
When notification permission is required by Android, SunFinder requests it when you enable a reminder.
Reminder times are calculated using the available astronomical information and your selected location.
Notification preferences are stored locally on your device.
SunFinder uses Android's notification and scheduling mechanisms to deliver reminders. The App does not operate a continuous background service or require a server to calculate reminder times.
Notifications may contain information such as an astronomical event, event time, or selected place name. Depending on your Android settings, notification content may be visible on your lock screen.
You can disable reminders within Soluna or disable notifications through Android settings.
SunFinder allows you to create a Sky Card containing information about the sky for a selected place and time.
A Sky Card may contain:
Place name
Date and time
Time-zone information
Sunrise and sunset
Moon phase
Golden hour
Other astronomical information
Sky Cards are generated locally on your device.
Exporting a Sky Card may require you to watch a rewarded advertisement.
The rewarded advertisement is optional. If you choose not to watch it, the underlying astronomy information remains available in the App.
When you choose to save a Sky Card, SunFinder writes the resulting image to your device's shared picture/media storage.
Saved Sky Cards may remain on your device even after SunFinder is uninstalled. You can delete them using your device's gallery or file-management application.
When you share a Sky Card, Soluna may create a temporary copy in its application cache and provide that file to the application you select through Android's share mechanism.
Once you share the image with another application, its handling is governed by that application's privacy practices.
SunFinder does not intentionally upload Sky Card images to its own servers.
SunFinder is free and supported by advertising.
The App uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) to display advertisements.
Depending on the feature and current configuration, Soluna may display:
Banner advertisements
Rewarded advertisements
Rewarded advertisements may be used for optional features such as Sky Card export.
The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and process certain information for advertising, advertising measurement, fraud prevention, and related advertising-service purposes.
According to Google's current Android data disclosure for the Mobile Ads SDK, this may include:
IP address
Advertising ID and other device or app identifiers
User product interactions, such as app launches, taps, and video views
Diagnostic and performance information
Information related to advertisements displayed or interacted with
Google states that information collected by the Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS.
The exact information processed may depend on the SDK version, device configuration, advertising settings, consent choices, and other applicable settings.
SunFinder does not intentionally attach its stored astronomy data, Sky Card content, or stored location coordinates to its ad requests for custom advertising targeting.
However, Google Mobile Ads may independently process information such as the device's IP address, which can be used to estimate general location.
Information processed by Google is governed by Google's applicable privacy practices.
The Google Mobile Ads SDK may use advertising and device-related identifiers for advertising, measurement, and fraud-prevention purposes.
These may include the Android Advertising ID and App Set ID, depending on the applicable SDK and device configuration.
The Android Advertising ID is a resettable identifier controlled through Android device settings.
SunFinder does not directly read, store, or use the Advertising ID as part of its own application profile.
SunFinder does not combine advertising identifiers with its locally stored location information to create its own user profile.
Google notes that Advertising ID collection can be affected by SDK configuration, user settings, and applicable privacy choices.
SunFinder uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to manage advertising consent where applicable.
Before requesting advertisements, Soluna uses the consent information provided by UMP to determine whether advertising requests can be made. Google's current guidance requires apps using UMP to check whether ads can be requested using the consent status before requesting ads.
Where consent is required by applicable privacy regulations, users may be presented with an advertising consent or privacy-choice message.
Advertising behavior may differ depending on:
Your location
Applicable privacy requirements
Your consent choices
Android device settings
Advertising configuration
Users may also have advertising-related controls available through their Android device settings.
SunFinder may occasionally use Google's official Google Play In-App Review API to invite users to rate the App.
SunFinder does not create its own imitation of the Google Play rating dialog and does not require or request a specific rating.
SunFinder may store simple on-device information used to determine when a review request should be considered, such as usage counters or dates.
This information is used only to prevent review prompts from being displayed too frequently.
The review interface is provided by Google Play.
SunFinder does not receive the rating or review text submitted through the Google Play review interface.
SunFinder does not operate its own analytics backend.
The App does not intentionally collect or send user activity to Soluna for behavioral analytics.
SunFinder does not currently use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or another separate first-party analytics or crash-reporting service.
However, Google Mobile Ads may process advertising-related interactions, diagnostics, and performance information as part of its advertising services, as described in Section 10.
SunFinder stores certain information locally to provide its functionality.
This may include:
Latest latitude and longitude
Time zone
Selected or detected place name
Elevation, where available
Only the latest location is retained rather than maintaining a location history.
This may include:
Reminder preferences
