The goal of the Symposium on Language Pedagogy in Higher Education (SOLPHE) is to serve as a professional development forum tailored to the needs of post-secondary language educators, which will not only help to enhance the quality of language programs but also provide opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration. During the symposium, we will host talks and sessions about different aspects of language teaching and program administration in higher education settings. Both practice-oriented and research-oriented proposals are welcome. Practice-oriented papers should be grounded in theoretical frameworks and/or empirical research, and research-oriented papers should offer practical implications of relevance to language programs in post-secondary settings.

Since its founding in 1980, the American Association of University Supervisors, Coordinators, and Directors of Language Programs (AAUSC) has worked to promote, improve, and strengthen foreign language and second language instruction in the US; to strengthen development programs for teaching assistants, teaching fellows, associate instructors, or their equivalents; to promote research in second language acquisition and on the preparation and supervision of teaching assistants; and to establish a forum for exchanging ideas, experiences, and materials among those concerned with language program direction.
