The Waterfront History Art Park is the proposed redevelopment of the Vallejo Waterfront Park and Independence Park. The redevelopment will construct a new play structure, fitness court, a performance stage, areas for artwork, landscaped paths, viewing platforms, and direct access to the water.
PGA Design was the chosen firm to design the park based off the Unit Plan approved by the Design Review Board in 2016. Per their proposal, the redevelopment would occur in two phases:
During their 8 October 2019 meeting, the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a Design Professional Agreement with David L Gates and Associates, Inc. not to exceed $750,613.20 to prepare plans, specification, and estimates for the park.
During the 2015 cycle of Participatory Budgeting, Vallejoans voted to fund the beautification of the Waterfront Park.
On 8 December 2015, the City Council allocated $395,000.
On 13 September 2016, the City Council approved development of a unit plan by Mario Chiodo and Christopher Kent.
In December 2016, the Design Review Board approved a unit plan from Chiodo and PGADesign.
Because fundraising for Chiodo's design has stalled, the City purchased scaled-down schematic drawings from PGADesign.
