The Fairgrounds Drive Interchange Project seeks to reconstruct two interchanges in Vallejo:
The reconstruction of these interchanges aims to alleviate congestion in the area while increasing safety.
In 2018, the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) applied successfully for funding from the Transit and Intercity Rail Program (TIRCP), which funded bike and pedestrian improvements and a new SolanoExpress stop at the SR-37/Fairgrounds Drive interchange.
The Final Environmental Impact Report for this project was approved in June 2015.
This segment of the project would retain the existing overcrossing while reconfiguring the interchange into a "tight-diamond configuration." New on- and off-ramps with traffic lights would simplify the interchange that currently exists. The project would relocate the Fairgrounds Drive/Redwood Street intersection to the west, although this relocation would require the eminent domain of multiple parcels of privately-owned property. Fairgrounds Drive would also be widened and Moorland Street would get new cul-de-sacs.
This segment of the project would see the widening of Fairgrounds Drive. Rindler Creek would be relocated to accommodate the road widening. Traffic light signals would also be modified.
This segment of the project would widen Fairgrounds Drive under the overcrossing to better manage queuing.
