During their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, the Planning Commission for the City of Vallejo approved the necessary entitlements for a new self-storage facility near I-80 and a modular home in west Vallejo.
The meeting kicked off with a public hearing about a new self-storage facility to be located at 384 Fairgrounds Drive. City staff gave a brief presentation on the project before the Commission began discussion. Other than discussions with the applicant, no public comments were given. The Commission then unanimously approved the project.
Following the hearing on the self-storage facility, city staff then gave a presentation on a new modular home proposed to be located at 0 Hichborn Street (as seen in the above map, despite the confusing address). Similar to the previous public hearing, no public comment was given other than discussions with the applicant. Likewise, the Commission approved the project unanimously.
In other business, the City’s consultant also presented new information on nonresidential districts for the City’s upcoming updated development code. Staff looked for direction from the Commission about whether to allow high-density housing near transit, in retail centers, and close to medical facilities. Also discussed was whether to create minimum and maximum height standards along major corridors such as Tennessee Street or Springs Road. The consultant plans to return with a draft zoning map in June, while staff anticipate having the development code approved by the City Council by the end of the year.
