Advances in new materials, control, bioinspiration and applications
Introducing compliance in robotic systems is key to achieve an optimal tradeoff between dexterity, safety and durability, as demonstrated by the outstanding manipulation and locomotion capabilities of the biological organisms that we adopt as source of inspiration. Either distributed or localized, in the materials or in the geometry, such compliance needs to be taken into account with appropriate control strategies. For instance, different soft robotic systems have been developed by mimicking animals and plants, offering interesting cues to adapt and move in complex unstructured terrestrial and aquatic environments.
Soft Robotics is a rapidly growing field and this workshop wants to offer a cutting-edge perspective to the audience of the 5th Italian Conference of Robotics and Intelligent Machines. We aim at covering all different aspects and scientific challenges related to Soft Robotics, with a list of leading scientists as speakers, giving an insightful overview on the latest developments in terms of material systems, control schemes, bioinspiration paradigms and applications.
