edward "ed" nygma, also known as the riddler, is the former forensic science technician working for the gotham city police department with a penchant for speaking in riddles. he later went down a path of criminal activity after murdering tom dougherty to protect kristen kringle from his abuse. he later started dating kringle but accidently killed her as well after revealing this information to her. Ed's alter ego would force him to embrace his darkness after these murders. later, he framed jim gordon after the latter began looking into the death of kringle.
