Andres Bonifacio Letter to Emilio Jacinto,
April 24, 1897
The letters was dated April 24, 1897, about the controversial Tejeros convention. Bonifacio sent them to Emilio Jacinto, one of the highest ranking officers of the Katipunan, bearing his official letterhead design.
It was written just days before the Tejeros Convention, a meeting of the Katipuneros, which also predicted the country’s first presidential and vice-presidential elections. In the other two letters, Bonifacio tells Jacinto of what happened at the Tejeros Convention – he described them as chaotic.
The letter was studied by scholar Jim Richardson, and verified by Leon Gallery’s own team of historians. It also became part of the estate of the late Epifanio De Los Santos, a respected historian, scholar, and director of the National Library. These were auctioned off by Leon Gallery, which benefited Asian Cultural Council Philippines Foundation Inc.
Jose Rizal's My Last Farewell, June 29,1896
In the shadowy confines of his Fort Santiago cell, Dr. Jose P. Rizal composed his timeless poem, "Mi Ultimo Adios." It is a 14 five-line stanza written last December 29, 1896, before his execution at Bagumbayan which is now Luneta Park in Manila.
Rizal wrote a beautiful tribute to his beloved nation as a final departure. His poetry ended up in his sisters' hands and worked like a powerful tool to ignite the Filipino people's desire for independence.
According to Linda Marquez a graphologist, Rizal's Mi Ultimo Adios m's and n's are pointed and look like u's and w's revealing abundant energy, superior determination, and adaptability. In the manuscript of Mi Ultimo Adios, the descending line's direction shows Rizal was depressed during that time.
