Every social network counts the length of a post differently and stops you at a different number. This page keeps the limits for 12 platforms in one place, with the counting rules that catch people out. It is maintained by Fuxux, a social media scheduler; the numbers are the ones our own publishing checks use.
The same limits in one line: X 280, Bluesky 300, Threads 500, Pinterest 800, Discord 2,000, Instagram 2,200, TikTok 2,200, LinkedIn 3,000, YouTube 5,000, Facebook 63,206, Twitch and Kick stream titles 140.
X does not count characters one by one. Letters, digits and common punctuation count 1. Most emoji count 2, and so do characters from languages such as Chinese or Japanese. Any link counts 23, however long or short it is. So a post that looks like 250 characters can be over the limit, and a post with a very long link can be well under it.
Bluesky counts what you see. An emoji with a skin tone, a flag or a family emoji is one character on Bluesky, even though it is several characters to a computer.
Instagram has more than one limit. The caption allows 2,200 characters, but the feed shows roughly the first 125 before "more", so the first line has to carry the post. A bio allows 150 characters and a profile name 30. Instagram announced in December 2025 that posts and Reels are limited to 5 hashtags.
Paste your text into the free character counter and it shows the count for every platform at once, using the rules above.
If you post the same idea to several networks, Fuxux lets you write one post, adjust the caption for each platform and schedule them together.
