Conference description

The 13th Southern California Flow Physics Symposium (SoCal Fluids XIII) will be held at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 20, 2019.

This conference aims to bring together researchers from universities throughout Southern California, working in all areas of fluid dynamics, for a one-day exchange of ideas in an informal and collaborative atmosphere.

To promote education and exposure, talks are invited from graduate students and postdocs, as well as from undergraduates who have been pursuing research. Faculty and other undergraduate students are highly encouraged to attend. All universities in Southern California are welcome to participate.

The conference poster can be found here.

Contributed papers are limited to 10 minutes with 2 additional minutes for discussion. This is followed by 1 minute for transition to the next paper and introduction of the next speaker.

During the talk, the monitor will indicate at 8 minutes that the speaker has to finish in 2 minutes. At 10 minutes, it will indicate that the speaker's presentation time is over. At 12 minutes, it will indicate that transition to the next speaker must occur.

Directions and Parking

The symposium will be held in the lecture hall annex of the Engineering Science Building at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which is highlighted in the map below (plus code "C585+57 Isla Vista, California", or link

The nearest parking is available in lot 10 (see image below or use plus code "C585+4Q Isla Vista, California", or link

While UC permits from other campuses could, in principle, be converted to a UCSB permit, this needs to be requested at the main Transportation and Parking Services Office, which is only open on weekdays. Detailed information can be found at:

Others can park in "coastal access" spaces, purchasing an hourly permit (in increments of 4 hours) from a vending machine. Day parking permits are available at the information kiosk, open 7:30am-6pm ("C583+QJ Isla Vista, California", or, and can be used in visitor spaces. The kiosk attendant will direct you to appropriate lots.
