GHANA'S YAM INDUSTRY OVERVIEW (AS OF 15 JULY 2026)

As of 15 July 2026, the average warehouse price of Pona yam in Ghana is GHS 17.55 per kilogram (approximately US$1.5228/kg).

Ghana is a significant player in the global yam market and ranks among the world's leading yam-producing countries. In 2024, the country produced 10,113,014 tonnes of yams, representing approximately 11.0% of global yam production. This strong production capacity reinforces Ghana's position as one of the world's most important suppliers of yams.

The current average warehouse price of GHS 17.55 (US$1.5228) per kilogram reflects the strong commercial value of Ghanaian yams and supports the country's competitiveness in regional and international markets. As a consistent net exporter of yams, Ghana exports substantially more yams than it imports, contributing to foreign exchange earnings, strengthening food security, and enhancing its role in global agricultural trade.
