Using and storing your tallow products

A little bit goes a long way! Start with a small amount and lather it into your skin until it feels evenly hydrated.

Temperature will determine texture. Warmer temperatures=more spreadable tallow balm and colder temperatures=stiffer tallow balm.

Simplify your skincare routine. I usually just wash my face with water or on days there is dirt and makeup on my face I use the Simple Face Wash. Then I follow up with: Fresh Face Tallow Balm. Cutting out as many chemicals as possible is imperative to restoring your skin’s natural balance.

Tips for applying tallow balm to your face: Use the back of your nail to get about a dime size amount. Rub the balm between your clean hands and then work it into your face, down your neck and onto your chest. Your skin may feel a little greasy at first but it will quickly absorb if you didn’t apply too much. Adjust the amount to what works well for you. I put on the fresh face tallow balm morning and night after only washing my face with water and patting it dry. If it is a day I wear makeup, I give the balm some time to absorb (at least 5 to 10 minutes) before I put my foundation on.

Unscented tallow balm is recommended for those who are sensitive to essential oils, as nipple cream for nursing mamas, and as intercourse lube.

The tallow sunscreen is around 30 SPF but there is no way to know exactly. It holds up in the water and sweat for up to 2 hours. A little really goes a long way with this one. The zinc oxide will leave a white cast because that is how it is effective at reflecting the sun and protecting your skin. I prefer to only put it on spots that the sun hits directly. As a general practice for sun exposure, I usually recommend avoiding direct sunlight in peak UV hours (10AM-4PM) and going out without sunglasses so your body can engage in photoprotection.

Store in a cool dry place. If left in the car on a hot day they will melt and can make an oily mess. All products are best used within a year. Make sure you have clean hands or use a clean utensil when getting your tallow from the container so that you don't introduce any outside bacteria to contaminate the batch.

When I discovered tallow...

I have struggled with acne for years and tried all sorts of different skincare products. It was expensive and overwhelming. During a health awakening, I found out about the many harmful chemicals and fragrances that are being put in conventional plant-based skincare products and I was shook. The majority of products contain substances that have been linked to cancer, hormone disruptions, neurotoxicity, allergies, the weakening of the immune system, and more. It made me sick that my hard earned money was supporting companies that did not care about my health but only about their profits. That's when I began to look for more natural products that would nourish my skin and not harm my body. Your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs whatever you put on it. With the epidemic of "green washing" going on, it was hard to decipher what products were actually natural and beneficial. After a lot of research and a new mission to connect to my ancestors' traditional ways of living, I discovered beef tallow skincare.I began by first making basic tallow products for myself and then I started to give it out to my close family and friends. Everyone was loving their results and asking for more! As I gained skill and confidence in my abilities to render tallow and create different skincare products effectively, I decided to make my passion into a small business. Now I am able to share the joy of healing with more people while still enjoying my highest calling as a homesteading mama. What is tallow?

Tallow is pure, rendered animal fat, in this case beef fat. Rendered meaning it has been cooked down slowly in order to remove all of the impurities. This process leaves you with white, odorless tallow which is a perfect base for many skincare products. Tallow has been used for centuries to nourish, protect, and heal human skin.

Why should we all be putting tallow on our skin?

Tallow is incredibly compatible with our skin, having a similar fatty-acid profile to our cell membranes, it easily penetrates the cell walls of our skin allowing it to be absorbed deeply and quickly. It contains high concentrations of essential bioavailable, minerals and fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, K, D, E, & B12, all of which are extremely beneficial for skin. It contains essential acids that help maintain microbial balance of the skin such as: stearic acid which helps to repair damaged skin, and improves skin’s flexibility and suppleness, aiding in skin regeneration; palmitoleic acid (omega 7) which is one of our skin’s basic building blocks; and oleic acid (omega 9) which aids other components in penetrating deeply into skin. Tallow serves as a skin superfood, giving your skin the essential fat-soluble vitamins it needs to restore and maintain balance. Being both antibacterial and antimicrobial, tallow is stable and does not oxidize or go rancid easily, unlike other plant-based products that also may damage skin cells. Tallow is non comedogenic so it will not clog your pores. Since it is so compatible with our skin's natural sebum, it works to moisturize, soothe, and repair the skin without clogging pores.

How can we use tallow?

Tallow can be used to nourish, heal, and hydrate your entire body. Use tallow balm on your face, lips, hands, feet, and entire body. For skin that is dry, calloused, chapped, cracked, sun-damaged, tattooed, or wrinkled. Soothe a variety of skin conditions such as acne, rashes, sunburns, eczema, psoriasis, razor burn, and more. Tallow helps with anti-aging, heals minor skin wounds, and fades scars and stretch marks. It can even be used for deep conditioning treatments on your hair's split ends, as non toxic intercourse lube, and for you mamas: it works great as nipple cream, baby lotion and diaper rash remedy. The best part too is that a little bit of tallow goes a long way!

A Nourishing Tradition

Across the globe and throughout history, dating back to some of the earliest mentions of skincare, tallow was being used to nourish, restore, and protect skin from some of the harshest conditions. It was used and revered by our ancestors who skillfully made use of all the parts of the animals that they harvested, leaving nothing to waste. Tallow was a customary and effective skincare method that only lost its popularity when commercial skincare companies found alternative ways to formulate products chemically. It was cheaper and easier for them to add petroleum and water-based fillers to products rather than packing them full of healthy fats that are naturally healthy for the skin. Tallow is an age-old, tried and tested skincare solution, used well before today's chemical-laden products, and reigning as a natural skincare gift from God.
