La Hesperia is a Natural Reserve, located in the Ecuadorian Cloudforest. My volunteering experience was divided into two parts: preservation of the environment and biodiversity, and teaching to the kids living in the rural community.
Some of the tasks involved in the environmental/biodiversity aspect of my volunteering:
Building of fences and infrastructures for animals and constructing eco-friendly gardens
Taking care of and feeding goats, chicken, sheep, and pigs
Renovation of trails with correct practices (without harming nature)
Harvesting of Cacao, coffee, and beans
Regarding teaching, I was in charge of teaching mathematics, english, and giving environmental education to the kids within the community. We had classes three times per week, and I divided the entire group into two sub-groups (from 5-8 and 9-12 years). I was solely in charge of the teaching, but other volunteers would join in occasionally to provide the kids with presentations on specific topics they were performing research in.
