4/09/2025: Additional Pack Test Dates have been added. We now have dates for April 17th and April 25th.
2/8/2025:
There have been concerns about the hiring freeze with the Bureau of Land Management. We have been instructed to move forward with hiring Administratively Determined (AD) employees.
More information will be provided at the Preseason Meeting on March 13th. A registration link and meeting requirements will be provided a week before the meeting.
Fire Business will post information to the AD website as it is finalized. "Coming Soon" pages on the AD website means information has not been finalized by our Operations group.

Great Basin Training Courses have been posted on the AD website. Please submit a training request if you would like to attend one or more of these courses.
Our AFMO/Training Officer Chase Maness will review the request after submission. Fire Business will coordinate with ADs if they have been accepted to attend the training course.

Our financial platform (FBMS) will be shutdown Sept 25th-Nov.11th This happens every year to close out our budget for the end of the fiscal year. However, this year it is extended because they are upgrading our financial platform.
EMPLOYEE IMPACT
ADs should continue to submit AD Travel/AD Time/NERV packages to AD website in a timely manner
AD time will be processed through the Casual Payment Center during this time and will not be affected
Travel reimbursement WILL NOT be available during this time. Fire Business will not have access to CONCUR to submit AD travel. Last day for Fire Business to submit travel is Friday, Sept 20th.
Fire Business will not be submitting AD vouchers after Friday, Sept 20th 5pm MT
ADs should review and sign travel vouchers ASAP the week of Sept 16th.
All travel submissions will continue after the shutdown period. Please plan accordingly.
IF YOU CANNOT MANAGE TO HAVE A BALANCE ON YOUR CREDIT CARD (FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES) DURING THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT YOU DO NOT TAKE AN ASSIGNMENT.

A friendly reminder to communicate with the SND Fire Duty Officer while you are on assignment. Attached are some examples (not an all-inclusive list) when you should call the Duty Officer:
When you are required to go over per diem. Need verbal approval prior to booking hotel room. Refer to SOP for more information
If you get in a car accident/damage NERV or Gov Vehicle
If you get injured while on an assignment- Duty Officer will assign a Virtual Hospital Liaison to assist with OWCP Case
If you are asked to be extended past 14 days
If you have an emergency
If you are required to return a NERV vehicle, but the Rental Locations are closed for the night/weekend.
When you return from assignment. Refer to SOP for more "Return from Assignment Requirements".
The Duty Officer line is monitored 24/7. Every employee should have the Duty Officer Cell Phone Number (702-515-5115) programed into their phone.

Do you need to attend a training for your position?
Does this training also require you to travel?
If so, then this email is for you!
The most important thing to remember when you need training and require travel with that training request is to:
Submit your requests on the AD Website at least two weeks prior to the scheduled training date!
While we understand that some circumstances may not always allow for this, it is a best practice to submit your requests to us as soon as possible.
Please note that we check submissions every morning.

If you need to attend a training, you must follow the below instructions:
Go to the AD Website
Select the Single Resource AD Page
Select "Training" button
Select "Training Requests/Submissions"
Scroll down to submit your Training Request
From there, Fire Business will get an alert and will coordinate with the FMO and will make the determination to approve the Training request.
If you need to also Travel for your Training, you must follow the below instructions:
Go to the AD Website
Select the Single Resource AD Page
Select "Training" button
Select "Training Requests/Submissions"
Scroll down to submit your Non-Emergency Travel Request (pictured below)
From there, Fire Business will get an alert and will coordinate with the FMO and will make the determination to approve the Training and Travel request.
After that, Fire Business will arrange your travel for the training and send you all the necessary documentation for your trip.
You will then be sent a Casual Hire Form via email that will need to be reviewed, signed, and returned to the Fire Business email at BLM_NV_SND_Firebusiness@blm.gov
Upon return from your assignment, you will need to submit your AD Time and AD Travel. Please Refer to the AD Website with instructions on how to properly submit your paperwork in order to get paid. 🙂 You will find the information on the "AD Time" and "AD Travel" pages on the AD Website.
Lastly, attached you will find examples on how to properly fill out your CTR and OF-288. This documentation is very important. You must annotate what hours are travel and what hours are training. The example will show you how to do this.
These examples can also be found on the AD Website on the "AD Forms" Page. Please take the time to read the examples! Not properly filling out these forms will result in delayed payment!
After your training hours are submitted through the AD Website, they must be approved by the FMO. NOTE: Each course is allotted a specific amount of time. If it takes you longer to complete an online course, we are unable to compensate you for those hours. Refer the AD SOP (General Information>Policy and Publication) for online training hours.

Go to the AD Training Page for information on the 2024 Great Basin Priority Training Program. The nomination process opens on February 12, 2024. Forms must received no later than April 1, 2024.
1/31/2024:
Below is information regarding the AD Single Resource Meetings. Only individuals that have received an Acceptance Letter are allowed to participate. Contact Fire Business if unable to attend one if these mandatory meetings. Only extenuating circumstances will be considered.
There are two option dates to provide flexibility to our ADs. You only need to attend one of these meetings.
Preseason Meeting Option 1:
Thursday February 13th 2024 at 17:00.
Preseason Meeting Option 2:
Wednesday April 23rdth 2024 at 1700. Note: We are not accepting hiring documents at this meeting.

Acceptance letters will be going out to AD's that applied for the 2024 Fire Season the week of January 16th 2024. Please monitor your emails.
