How to get Cleared for the Fire Season
Important: Please do not complete any tasks if you have not been accepted into the program and have received Hiring Paperwork!
To get cleared for the Fire Season, you must complete all tasks outlined on this checklist.

Once complete, please sign the signature page. The signature page will be one of the required documents that will need to be uploaded upon the completion of your Checklist.

Pay Information
Keep track of training hours on an OF-288 AD Forms The FMO will be approving all training hours. Do not record hours that exceed the allotted hours for each training. Training hours should be submitted after the completion of your checklist. Fire Business will only be processing training hours that require travel prior to preseason checklist being uploaded. Annual Submission of certificates is required.
Ensure "TRUTH IN CODING" for all training hours. The FMO will not approve inflated hours.
Preseason Meeting:
In person preseason meeting attendance allotted hours: 2 Hours
Virtual preseason meeting attendance allotted hours: 2 Hours
Defensive Driving Training: 4 Hours (valid for 3 years from date of training)
Wildland Fire Refresher: 4 Hours (if required for position). ** An AD cannot claim these hours if this training is not required for your position**
Work Capacity Test: 1.5 Hours (if required for position)
CPR Hands On Training: 4 Hours (only if required for your position and you are not already CPR/First Aid Qualified for the year)
IMT Training: 30 minutes (This can only be taken if your position requires the use of a BLM Computer).
Before using the BLM computers, casual employees are required to complete the security training: Please go to DOI Talent to complete Information Management and Technology Awareness Training (IMT): E-DOI Training Page > Scroll to "Instructions for creating an eDOIU account and finding courses"
IS100 Training: 2 Hours
IS700 Training: 3.5 Hours
Travel time to AD preseason meeting, time for completing physical (if required for your position), and time traveling to pack test (if required for your position) cannot be claimed on your preseason training OF-288 per the FMO. Only the above training hours or hours for position specific training can be claimed for preseason training OF-288. Contact Fire Business via email with questions or concerns.
AD Training Hours OF-288 Instructions
Do not submit your training hours until your Preseason Checklist/SOP Signature Page has been uploaded and verified by Fire Business and you have received confirmation with your Preseason Training Casual Hire Form. The deadline to complete your Preseason Requirements is April 1st , 2026. We will start clearing ADs from now until the first week of April.
Review the Example OF-288 for AD Training on the AD website (reference AD Time Forms)
All Preseason Training hours must be recorded on an OF-288. DOWNLOAD the Template OF-288 from the AD website. Note: Your OF-288 should be TYPED not handwritten. We have provided a SND Training OF-288 TEMPLATE for your convenience, and it can be found here: AD Time Forms. If you do not download the document first, all your information will be saved on the template.
Reference your casual hire form for your ECI and AD Pay Plan for position AD Class/Rate
A). Any training completed prior to 2026 AD Pay Plan date of publish will be paid out as the 2025 AD Rate. Annotate correct rates on your OF-288 (reference AD Time Forms). Refer to AD Pay Plans here: (NIFC AD Pay Plans).
B). Any training completed after the official 2026 AD Pay Plan date of publish will be paid out as the 2026 AD Rate. Annotate correct rates on your OF-288 in a separate column (reference AD Time Forms). A new Casual Hire Form is not required for this new rate. Please be advised that as of 4/7/2026, the 2026 AD Pay Plan has not been published. We will notify all ADs when the 2026 AD Pay Plan is live. Refer to AD Pay Plans here: (NIFC AD Pay Plans).
5. Review the allotted hours on the AD website > AD Requirements and Training Page
6. TYPE your hours on your OF-288
7. TYPE the description of classes/training in the Remarks Section
8. PDF the Document. Wet Sign OF-288 in Box 20 (employee signature)
9. Ensure you have completed all training hours (preseason checklist and position specific training) prior to submitting your training OF-288(s).
10: When you submit your time, all documents should be submitted in 1 PDF here: AD Time Submission
The FMO will review the OF-288. If OF-288 requires adjustments, Fire Business will reach out to the AD.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not include time you have already submitted if you traveled for training. A reminder to refer to the allotted hours for AD Training on the AD Requirements and Training Page. We will request a revision to your Time Submission if you go over the allotted hours for specific training requirements.

Priority Trainee Program Info Memo
Take a look at the new requirements for 2026 and also verify that your position is included in the Priority Trainee Program. A brief summary on the details is below:
Nominations are submitted by Training Officers, not by individual trainees.
Training Officers are responsible for validating eligibility prior to submission, including:
Minimum 50% PTB completion (signed-off numbered tasks)
All required training for the position will be completed by May 18, 2026
Verified supervisor concurrence confirming unit support and availability

Closes April 13, 2026
No late nominations will be accepted

As many of you know the FEMA website is down and it is unknown when it will be active again.
Here is an alternative for IS-100 and IS-700:
Safety Unlimited states that its ICS-100 training “follows NIMS guidelines and meets the NIMS Baseline Training requirements for I-100 and IS-100”. According to their site, they align with FEMA’s standards, and it was developed in collaboration with the NWCG, USDA, and US Fire Administration

OMSP Refresher: Monday, March 9th - Thursday, March 12th (Attendees: Anyone currently licensed or attending an EMR or EMT course in 2026.) As a reminder, class starts at 13:30 on Monday at the Red Rock BLM Fire Station and the main refresher will conclude at 16:30 on Thursday, with the add-on skills modules (IV, Needle D) occurring Friday from 08:30 - 14:00.
OMSP Add-on Skills Modules: Friday, March 13th (IV module - Selected individuals with District Lead or State Coordinator approval; Chest Needle Decomp - LEOs; IO Access modules - Select individuals with LEO Lead approval.)
