How to get Cleared for the Fire Season
Important: Please do not complete any tasks if you have not been accepted into the program and have received Hiring Paperwork!
To get cleared for the Fire Season, you must complete all tasks outlined on this checklist.

Once complete, please sign the signature page. The signature page will be one of the required documents that will need to be uploaded upon the completion of your Checklist.

Pay Information
Keep track of training hours on an OF-288 AD Forms The FMO will be approving all training hours. Do not record hours that exceed the allotted hours for each training. Training hours should be submitted after the completion of your checklist. Fire Business will only be processing training hours that require travel prior to preseason checklist being uploaded.
Ensure "TRUTH IN CODING" for all training hours. The FMO will not approve inflated hours.
Preseason Meeting:
In person preseason meeting attendance allotted hours: 2 Hours
Virtual preseason meeting attendance allotted hours: 2 Hours
Defensive Driving Training: 4 Hours
Wildland Fire Refresher: 4 Hours (if required for position). ** An AD cannot claim these hours if this training is not required for your position**
Work Capacity Test: 1.5 Hours (if required for position)
CPR Hands On Training: 4 Hours (only if required for your position and you are not already CPR/First Aid Qualified for the year)
IMT Training: 30 minutes (This can only be taken if your position requires the use of a BLM Computer).
Before using the BLM computers, casual employees are required to complete the security training: Please go to DOI Talent to complete Information Management and Technology Awareness Training (IMT): E-DOI Training Page > Scroll to "Instructions for creating an eDOIU account and finding courses"
Travel time to AD preseason meeting, time for completing physical (if required for your position), and time traveling to pack test (if required for your position) cannot be claimed on your preseason training OF-288 per the FMO. Only the above training hours or hours for position specific training can be claimed for preseason training OF-288. Contact Fire Business via email with questions or concerns.

Priority Trainee Program Info Memo
Take a look at the new requirements for 2026 and also verify that your position is included in the Priority Trainee Program. A brief summary on the details is below:
Nominations are submitted by Training Officers, not by individual trainees.
Training Officers are responsible for validating eligibility prior to submission, including:
Minimum 50% PTB completion (signed-off numbered tasks)
All required training for the position will be completed by May 18, 2026
Verified supervisor concurrence confirming unit support and availability
Nomination window:
Opens February 13, 2026
Closes April 13, 2026
No late nominations will be accepted

Location: Red Rock BLM Fire Station
OMSP Refresher: Monday, March 9th - Thursday, March 12th (Attendees: Anyone currently licensed or attending an EMR or EMT course in 2026.) As a reminder, class starts at 13:30 on Monday at the Red Rock BLM Fire Station and the main refresher will conclude at 16:30 on Thursday, with the add-on skills modules (IV, Needle D) occurring Friday from 08:30 - 14:00.
OMSP Add-on Skills Modules: Friday, March 13th (IV module - Selected individuals with District Lead or State Coordinator approval; Chest Needle Decomp - LEOs; IO Access modules - Select individuals with LEO Lead approval.)

Registration is now open for all the geographic trainings, so you will need to go in and register ASAP. The process has changed this year, and you now need to go in and register in your Wildland Learning Training Account.

To register click on the Geographic Area tab on the top tool bar
Click on the Geographic Area > Click on the training you want to register for and then click on the registration box:
