The Southern Nevada District (SND) BLM provides or assists with suppression on 10.2 million acres within the Las Vegas Interagency Dispatch Response Area. The BLM Fire program consists of 3 BLM Stations (Logandale, Pahrump, and Red Rock), 5 Engines (3 Type 3 engines and 2 Type 6 engines), an exclusive use 10 person Helitack Crew, Vegas Valley Type 2 IA Veteran Crew, Southern Nevada Interagency Type 2 Hand Crew, 2 Single Engine Air Tanker bases, BLM Fuels Program, Air Force Fuels Program, SNPLMA Fuels Program, Fire Prevention Mitigation Trespass Program and Las Vegas Interagency Communication Center (Dispatch).
In addition to these BLM Fire programs, the Southern Nevada District has created the SND Administratively Determined (AD) Program to aid in local and national incident support. An Administratively Determined employee is a person hired locally and compensated under the Department of Interior AD Pay Plan for Emergency Workers. They are also referred to as Casual Hires. The Casual Payment Center processes all payments for ADs. More information about Casual Pay rates and classification can be found in the DOI AD Pay Plan and on the NWCG website. Links, policy, etc. can be found on General Information Page.
See below Program Descriptions for Southern Nevada District AD Programs: Las Vegas Interagency Communication Center (LVICC) and Mesquite SEAT Base.
Casual Hires can also be ordered nationally after receiving their Incident Qualification Card, commonly known as a "Red Card". The National Wildfire Coordinating Group sets minimum training, experience, and physical fitness standards for wildland fire positions. Incident Qualification Cards will be issued to individuals who successfully complete the required training, experience, and physical fitness (work capacity) test by Southern Nevada District Office. Visit the NWCG Position Catalog for information on wildland fire positions (link below).
