Snapchat™ Video Spotlight for PC
Last updated: September 14, 2026
This policy explains how Snapchat™ Video Spotlight for PC (the "Extension") handles information when you watch public Spotlight videos and read public comments in Chrome's side panel. The Extension is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Snap Inc.
1. No developer-operated remote storage
The Extension does not send your data to servers operated by its developer. It has no developer-operated backend, remote database, cloud backup, analytics service, advertising tracker, or remote error-reporting service.
The developer does not remotely collect or store your playback preferences, comment drafts, viewing history, account credentials, or sensitive personal information. The Extension does not sell or rent user data or use it for advertising, profiling, credit assessments, or lending decisions.
Watching Spotlight requires direct connections to Snapchat and its media delivery services. These connections are described below; the absence of developer-operated storage does not mean that Snapchat receives no information or keeps no records.
2. Information stored locally
The Extension saves only the following preferences in Chrome's local extension storage on your device:
- Whether sound is enabled or muted.
- Your volume setting.
- Whether videos advance automatically.
- Whether you have viewed the navigation tutorial.
These settings keep the popup and side panel consistent and remain available between browser sessions. The Extension does not upload them to a server or use Chrome's synchronized storage.
3. Temporary processing and comment drafts
While the side panel is open, the Extension temporarily processes public video information, media addresses, creator names and avatars, captions, engagement counts, public comments, replies, and pagination identifiers. It keeps recently displayed video identifiers in memory to request additional videos without unnecessary repeats. It does not create a persistent viewing-history database.
Text you enter in the comment area is a local draft held in memory. The Extension does not save that draft in extension storage or automatically submit it to Snapchat. Closing the comment interface or reloading or closing the side panel discards the draft held by the Extension.
If you select "Copy and open Snapchat," the Extension writes your draft, including any selected reply mention, to your clipboard and opens the original Spotlight page. The draft is not included in that page's address or sent as a comment. Any later posting is an action you take in Snapchat.
The share control can also copy a Spotlight link to your clipboard. The Extension does not read your clipboard. Copied text may remain in your operating system's clipboard or clipboard history independently of the Extension, including under any clipboard synchronization settings you have enabled.
4. Direct requests to Snapchat
The Extension requests public Spotlight data and comments from https://www.snapchat.com and loads videos and images from Snapchat's media delivery domains, including subdomains of sc-cdn.net.
Requests may contain video or comment identifiers, pagination information, recently displayed video identifiers, and a locale value needed to retrieve content. As with other internet connections, the receiving services can receive your IP address and standard browser and request information.
Public feed and comment API requests omit account cookies and authentication credentials. The Extension does not require you to sign in to watch public Spotlight content and does not extract Snapchat passwords, session cookies, authentication tokens, or private messages.
Snapchat and its service providers handle information received through these connections under their own policies. The developer does not control their logging, storage, or retention practices. If you open Snapchat in a separate tab, that website may use its own cookies and your existing signed-in session.
5. Permissions
sidePanel: Displays the video player, navigation controls, and public comments alongside your browser tab.
storage: Saves the local preferences listed in this policy.
Host access to https://www.snapchat.com/*: Allows the Extension to request the public Spotlight feed and comments needed for its viewing features.
The Extension does not inspect the contents of unrelated websites, collect your general browsing history, or request access to your microphone, camera, contacts, or precise location.
6. External services and voluntary actions
The Extension opens Snapchat pages, the Chrome Web Store review page, or Buy Me a Coffee when you select the corresponding controls. These websites operate under their own privacy policies. Reviews, account activity, donations, and payment information you provide on those websites are handled outside the Extension. The Extension does not collect or process payment details.
7. Retention and your controls
Local preferences remain until you remove the Extension or clear its local storage. Temporary feed and comment state is released when the side panel is closed or reloaded. Chrome may separately cache network resources according to its browser settings.
You can change playback preferences in the popup, close the side panel to stop its viewing activity, disable the Extension, or uninstall it through Chrome's extension settings. Clear copied drafts through your operating system's clipboard controls if needed. Removing the Extension does not delete information retained independently by Snapchat, other websites, browser caches, or your clipboard.
8. Limited Use and security
The Extension's handling of user data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the viewing, playback, navigation, and comment features described in this policy. The developer does not receive that information for human review or transfer it to advertisers or data brokers.
Network requests for content use HTTPS. The Extension does not embed tracking services or upload local drafts and preferences to the developer.
9. Policy updates
This policy will be updated if the Extension's data practices change. The current version will be made available through the privacy policy link in the Chrome Web Store listing, with the revision date shown above.
