Privacy Policy — ShuttR Check

ShuttR Check ("the app") is developed by Christian Haemmerle. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.

Short version

Everything you create in the app — your cameras, measurements and service log — stays on your device and is never uploaded. The app has no account and no sign-in. The only data that ever leaves your device is optional, anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off at any time in Settings.

What the app stores on your device

• Camera profiles and measurement history (name, shutter type, test results) and your service log are saved locally using Apple's SwiftData framework.

• This data is never uploaded, synced to our servers, or shared. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.

Camera access

ShuttR Check requests access to your device's camera to measure the light pulse produced when you trigger your analog camera's shutter. Camera frames are processed in memory, in real time, to calculate a shutter speed — no photos or videos are recorded, saved, or transmitted anywhere.

Anonymous usage statistics (optional)

To understand how the app is used and decide what to improve, ShuttR Check can share a small amount of anonymous, aggregated data. This is on by default and can be switched off in Settings → Privacy → "Share anonymous usage data".

What is shared:

• That the app was opened (so we can see roughly how often the app is used per day/week).

• For each measurement you take (whether or not you save it to a camera): the name you gave the camera (the text you typed) together with a generic model label, the shutter-type category, and how far each measured speed deviated from its nominal value. For a Quick Check, where there is no saved camera, the name is simply recorded as "Quick Check". The camera name is included so specific cameras can be looked into to improve accuracy and prioritise further testing. Please avoid putting personal information in a camera's name if you would rather not share it.

• The app version and iOS version.

• A random identifier generated on your device, used only to group one device's own events. It is not your Apple ID, name, email, phone number, advertising identifier, or location, and it is not linked to your identity. It is deleted if you delete the app.

What is NOT shared:

• No names, email addresses, or accounts (the app has none).

• No photos, videos, or camera frames.

• No location data.

• No advertising identifiers, and the app does not track you across other apps or websites.

The camera name is the only free-text field that is shared. It is not linked to your identity — only to a random per-install identifier — and it is used solely to guide the app's development and testing.

How it's sent: via Apple's CloudKit into a private database controlled by Christian Haemmerle. It is used only in aggregate to guide the app's development, and is never sold or shared with third parties.

No advertising, no tracking

The app shows no ads, uses no advertising SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The optional statistics described above are anonymous and not linked to any identity.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the app's App Store listing accordingly.
