Head Lice / Nits
Please check your child’s hair regularly for the presence of head lice or nits.
If you find head lice or nits in your child's hair, please inform your child’s class teacher as a notification will be sent to other parents. An information letter about head lice is available below.
Children do not need to be kept off school if they have headlice (treatment having been given).

It is recommended to only treat your child’s hair if head lice or nits are present and not to treat hair as a preventative measure.
Head lice is a very common condition for children attending primary school.
Peak season is from August to October and January.
Girls are more likely than boys to get head lice.
Studies suggest that 1 in 10 children will get head lice at some stage while in primary school.
Head lice cannot jump, fly or swim.
Getting head lice isn't a sign of poor hygiene or unclean surroundings. Head lice prefer clean hair to attach and lay their eggs.
Head lice are a nuisance, however, they don't cause serious illness or carry any diseases.
