AARP TaxAide Volunteer Services at Smith Center
Tax-Aide will operate from February 5th, 2026 through April 10th, 2026 except for April 3rd on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Taxes will be prepared by appointment only while you wait. Please prepare to spend 1-2 hours at the site for the appointment.
Appointments with a tax counselor for tax preparation will be made in person at the Smith Active Adult Center or by phone or text between 10:00am and 3:00pm on the following days until all appointments are filled:
· Tuesdays and Wednesdays from January 14th, 2026 to January 28th, 2026
· Thursdays and Fridays from February 5th, 2026 to March 27th, 2026
To make an appointment in person, please come to the Smith Active Adult Center on the dates/times noted above. To make an appointment by phone, please call or text (336) 338-8194, and the call/text will be returned during the hours noted above. If you make an appointment by phone or text, you will need to stop by the center during one of the days/times above to pick up a packet of information that must be completed before your appointment.

Items needed for tax preparation
Photo ID (license) for each taxpayer and spouse, and social security cards for each taxpayer, spouse and dependent
Completed tax questionnaire (Intake/Interview document) and all pertinent worksheets - the Intake/Interview document (form 13614-C) can be picked up during the appointment hours shown above or printed at home using this link: https://ta-nttc.tiny.us/Tax-Aide-Intake-Booklet
All tax documents received such as W-2 forms, 1099-R forms, SSA-1099 forms, etc.
2023 and 2024 income tax returns
Any letters or documents from the IRS
Form 1095-A from the Marketplace if you received health insurance through the Marketplace
Bank account routing and account numbers if you would like your tax refund directly deposited to your bank account or your payment due directly drafted.
On the day of your appointment, you will stay at the site until your return is completed. At the end of your appointment, a counselor will review your completed return with you, and you will provide authorization for electronic filing by AARP TaxAide Volunteer Services at Smith Center. Taxpayer(s) must be in-person for this review.
