A classic smiley. A yellow face with a modest smile, rosy cheeks, and soft, closed eyes. Many platforms, including Apple, feature relaxed eyebrows. Conveys a wide range of warm, positive feelings, including love, happiness, and gratitude.

I wanted to share with you guys the latest smiley designs, which we finished TODAY. They follow unicode standards, so not all of them will match up with Apple (although most will). The style is flat, much like our 2014 renditions, and purposed to look sharp when scaled down.

He added, "Wherever the Internet has become a part of people's daily lives, the smiley has soon followed. I sometimes wonder how many millions of people have typed these characters, and how many have turned their heads to one side to view a smiley, in the 25 years since this all started."

Fahlman said that would stir up more people with more responses, and soon the original thread of the discussion was buried. So, a discussion of ideas for joke markers ensued, during which Fahlman suggested the sideways smiley face. (Read the original thread.)

The smiley face is trademarked so you can't use it without the company's permission, which I'm sure would cost big bucks. Just because you drew it makes no difference. If someone would be able to recognize it as a smiley (and what would be the point, if they couldn't) then you can't sell it.

This is a list of commonly used emoticons or textual portrayals of a writer's moods or facial expressions in the form of icons. Originally, these icons consisted of ASCII art, and later, Shift JIS art and Unicode art. In recent times, graphical icons, both static and animated, have joined the traditional text-based emoticons; these are commonly known as emoji.[1]

Western style emoticons are mostly written from left to right as though the head is rotated counter-clockwise 90 degrees. One will most commonly see the eyes on the left, followed by the nose (often not included) and then the mouth. Typically, a colon is used for the eyes of a face, unless winking, in which case a semicolon is used. However, an equals sign, a number 8, or a capital letter B are also used to indicate normal eyes, widened eyes, or those with glasses, respectively. Symbols for the mouth vary, e.g. ")" for a smiley face or "(" for a sad face. One can also add a "}" after the mouth character to indicate a beard.[citation needed]

I have a mobile chat conversation text area which is stored in ntext data type in SQL Server 2008. I am doing some process character by character. I need to do something I do not know to pass these kind of emoji characters. Should I eliminate them or collate to different collation or encode to different char-set. My table's collation type is Latin1_General_CI_AS. I need something like this:

there is a workaround. If you type the smiley in MS Teams it will be converted. But if you type the smiley in e.g. Notepad and copy & paste it in Teams it won't be converted. Not the best solution, but it works..

The emoticons plugin provides an autocompleter for adding emoji without using the toolbar button or menu item. Adding a colon :, followed by at least two characters will open the emoticon picker showing matching emoji.

By default, the emoticon plugin inserts Unicode character codes, such as \ud83d\ude03 for the smiley emoji. How emoji are rendered is dependent on the web browser and operating system of the user. As a result of this, some emoji may be rendered in black and white, or may not render. To ensure emoji render consistently across browsers and operating systems, Tiny recommends adding an emoji-compatible web font to the default font-family using content_css.

Internally, emoticons is defined by an object mapping emoticon names to additional details, whereby each entry represents a single emoji. The additional details should contain a unicode character representing the emoji, any keywords that can be used to search for the emoji and a category to place the emoji in. Options are expected to be provided in the same format.

3-Point Smiley Face Rating Scale

In the 3-point scale, respondents can choose between three smiley faces representing happy, neutral and sad emotions. This scale is simple and quick to answer and accommodates the moderate feeling or expression.

Likert Scale with Smiley Face Rating Scale

Combining a Likert scale (e.g., strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree) with smiley faces to visually represent the response options. For example, a happy face might correspond to "strongly agree" or "agree," while a sad face could represent "disagree" or "strongly disagree."

They are universally understood: Emojis and emoticons are universally understood and accepted. People from all walks of life and of all ages, including children and adults recognize and identify with smiley faces.

They reduce all language barriers: Unlike written answer options, emojis are self-explanatory and using them in surveys ensures that your customers, no matter which language they speak, can effectively communicate how they feel and their experience. Highly recommended to use them in multilingual surveys.

They lead to more accurate, honest and quick feedback: Owing to the simplicity and clarity of a smiley face rating scale, they are proven to derive more accurate data with honest feedback from customers. Customers can be hesitant or reluctant to share negative feedback in words. However, when presented with the opportunity to select their experience through an array of emojis and emoticons, they can simply click on one that resonates with their experience, thus sharing their real feelings and more accurate feedback.

CSAT question with Smiley Face: We recommend using the 5-scale smiley face question while collecting feedback. You can ask questions like, How was your experience?, How satisfied are you with the service today?, How would you rate your experience with the product?, and so on. You can also use multiple smiley face questions in the same survey with the same answer options to measure feedback on various parameters.

Comments or Open-ended questions: The smiley question would tell you the customer sentiment. The reason behind the sentiment can be gauged using open-ended questions like comment boxes. These allow customers to share more about why they chose a particular emoticon in their own words. Customer sentiment analysis can then help identify trends, behavior patterns, and other hidden sentiments.
