Dental cavity, also commonly called decay, is a common dental disease. Caries usually caused by food getting stuck into tooth. The trapped food causes bacteria to grow there, which creates acid and damages the outer coating of the tooth, called enamel. If tooth decay is not treated, it gradually progresses and damages the tooth structure.
Poor Oral Hygiene : Poor oral hygiene is the main cause of tooth decay. When regular brushing is avoided, food particles and bacteria accumulate there, which is the main cause of decay.
High-sugar Diet : A diet high in sugar can be a major cause of tooth decay, as bacteria make acid from the sugar, which damages the enamel.
Dry Mouth : Saliva is needed to clean food particles and neutralize acids in the mouth. If not enough saliva is produced, the chances of tooth decay can increase.
Tooth Shape and Position : Crooked teeth make them difficult to clean, which can increase the chances of decay.
Soft acidic drinks : Drinking acidic drinks like soda can damage tooth enamel, which can increase the chances of tooth decay.
Genetic : Some people have genetically weak tooth enamel which also increases the chance of decay.
Preventing tooth decay requires regular cleaning and regular checkups with your doctor. Apart from this, fluoride toothpaste should be used for healthy teeth.
