YEAR-END AWARDS
Year-End awards will be presented, first through fifth place, to the horses and riders with the highest number of points in each SMHJA-approved division. Special recognition will be given to the champion (highpoint) and reserve champion (reserve highpoint). In the event of a tie, duplicate awards will be made. No awards other than those recognized by the SMHJA board of directors shall be presented. To be eligible for year-end awards, riders must:
Be a member of SMHJA
Earn points at no less than two SMHJA-approved shows
Complete three hours of volunteer work
NOTE: In order to have points accumulated for year-end awards, the owner or lessee of the horse (hunter/jumper) or the rider (equitation) must be a member of this association. Points go with the horse when sold unless sold to a non-member, in which case the points will remain with the member. The new owner must become a member (if not already) before subsequent points are recorded.
ADDITIONAL YEAR-END AWARDS
This award was established in 2010 to honor Marilyn McIntyre. Marilyn was a founding member of Southwest Missouri Hunter Jumper Association and we remember her with a perpetual sponsorship in her name along with a scholarship, awarded annually. She was a driving force in organizing this association and trained many riders in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Marilyn was a mentor to many beginner riders supporting their efforts to advance in the sport by providing school horses, lessons, show transportation and coaching. She was the trainer for the MSU Hunt Seat program for many years before they had their own facility and staff. Since she was so dedicated to the beginner rider (both children & adult) we have established the Marilyn McIntyre Memorial Scholarship to be funded by SMHJA.
A $100 SMHJA bucks Scholarship is available each year to honor trainer and friend, Marilyn McIntyre. Members may be nominated by any member, or self-apply, at any time during the year. The nomination should be either mailed to SMHJA or e-mailed to a current board member. The board of directors will pick the recipient. Nomination forms are available on the SMHJA website. The scholarship award may be used toward SMHJA approved shows or clinics. Deadline for application / nominations is November 30th
Eleanor had a lifelong passion for horsemanship and was an advocate in furthering the equine industry in Missouri. She taught many how to ride hunt seat. Eleanor was an equestrian instructor at Stephens College in Columbia and was actively involved in the University of Missouri 4-H horsemanship program for Greene County. She also served on the Board of the Missouri Equine Council (now known as the Missouri Horse Council). Most importantly, she was the life and business partner of Dr. James Robberson of The Equine Clinic. Eleanor had the ability to communicate with clarity and assertiveness, while remaining humble in all situations. She is missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
A junior and adult sportsmanship award will be given each year to an active member of SMHJA found to be most helpful, supportive, and “sportsmanlike” throughout the year. Members may be nominated at any time during the year by any member. Deadline for nominations is November 30th
