September 5th: Judge's Clinic with Anna Johnson

Anna Johnson is a William Woods University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Equestrian Science and is due to graduate with her Master of Education in Equestrian Education in December. Anna has shown hunters, jumpers, equitation and western (all around, reining) at both local and national levels with multiple championships and year-end championships. In addition to a lengthy show career, Anna has also explored many other disciplines having had formal schooling in eventing, dressage, saddle seat and was a professional carriage driver for 2 years. She has also conditioned horses for endurance riding (LD’s). She ran her own business for five years instructing an average 30 riders and maintaining and average of 10 horses in training which varied from pleasure riders to avid competitors in both Oklahoma and Arizona.

Anna placed top 5 in every division of the judging competition at U.S. Nationals. Her team won the senior division and as an individual, she placed second overall. She then went on to assistant coach the next year’s judging teams, received an internship with The Arabian Horse Association helping run the horse judging and hippology contests at U.S. Nationals the following year, and was a Mentor Mentee program recipient which allowed her to develop an Introductory Guide to Competitive Horse Judging with her division chair, Jennie Petterson.

As a professional, Anna has worked hundreds of shows and clinics and judges an average of 20 shows per year in both western and hunter/jumper disciplines. She also enjoys working as a steward and scribe for the Missouri Ranch Horse Association and currently teaches a handful of students in central Missouri. Earlier this year, Anna directed a Judge Certification Clinic for the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association and continues to develop curriculum for their judges to help improve their training and selection processes.

Anna is passionate about teaching and horse shows and wants every rider to go into the ring and to give the best trip of their life while having fun. She enjoys watching competitors improve throughout the years (or between classes) and continues her own education both on and off the horse. Every class is a new opportunity and she hopes to give back to the community through this affordable, fun, and casual clinic.
