Master rosarian Stu Dalton came to the pumphouse on October 17 to show how to propagate roses from cuttings and to conduct a practice session afterward. The workshop was recorded. Separately, Stu has a YouTube PowerPoint presentation on the topic that he asked workshop attendees to view before the workshop. Stu also provided a handout.
Internal workshop recording - the recording from the workshop has two parts. The first 45 minutes is Stu's presentation. Afterward, a Stu did a field demonstration of rose propagation. That lasts about 15 minutes.
Stu Dalton's YouTube video on rose propagation from cuttings is here.
The workshop handout is here.
Below are Stu's notes on ordering the materials needed for rose propagation.
My favorite mix to propagate is Wonder Soil. Augmented coir. Lots of organic amendments added. I’ve also used coir and fine perlite. I buy10 pound bricks on Amazon. WONDER SOIL | Organic Coco Coir Brick/Block | Ready to Plant Compressed Coco Coir Fully Loaded with Nutrients | 10 LBS Block Expands to 2.5 Cu Ft | Incl Worm Castings & Nutrients https://a.co/7oxcXdV
I use gel and #8 hormone
Hormex Rooting Hormone Powder #8 | for Moderately Difficult to Root Plants | Fastest IBA Rooting Powder Compound for Strong & Healthy Roots https://a.co/eTmxyFh
HydroDynamics Clonex Rooting Gel, 100 ml https://a.co/h65fjii
I hydrate the 10# brick it in a big bin with water. Makes a lot and takes time to absorb. I store extra in a closed bin
The gel and powder are optional but it increases success . Honey also works (antibacterial and anti fungal)
