Development started on November of 2018, after a Thanksgiving party I was returning home with my folks, when suddenly; I put two and two together. What if I took a Siren and put it in a horror game? Thus spawning inspiration for The Siren. Development was started the next day, I wrote the Game Design Document(Keep those in mind if you make games), and wrote the story and characters. One thing I made sure to make a goal was to give a satisfying ending that was not open ended. Though Scott Cawthon, creator of Five Nights at Freddy's, is a big inspiration to me, I have wished the series was not as drawn out as it was, so I did not want to give a open ended ending or create a bunch of sequels for this title.
Development finished on February of 2019, and thus; The Siren was revealed to the world.
- Originally, the game was gonna be a game with the structure of Frictional Games' Amnesia the Dark Descent. There would've been multiple areas in the cave that the player would have had to explore and solve various puzzles. But this was scrapped for the level based structure to keep things simple and not overwhelm myself as the last thing I wanted was to cancel the game due to not being able to handle its scope.
- Melissa, the main antagonist, was gonna have a boss battle at the end of the game. The player would have had to find pieces of a knife during the game and fight Melissa at the end. This also would have tied into the game's ending. No knife = bad ending, knife = good ending. I don't entirely remember how the fight was supposed to go, other than Melissa would have jumped out of the water to grab the player, the player would have to dodge and slash the knife at her.
- During the Amnesia-like structure phase of the game, the player had a health bar. This was dropped when the level based structure was introduce and Melissa became an instant kill upon touch.
