Google launched its Pixel 4 series comprising of Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL back in October 2019. They turned out to be pretty much the same what leaks had been suggesting prior to the launch. But let’s not deny the fact that they are the great phones. In this article, we are going to compare both of these phones to each other.
Both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL share the exact same design. The only difference, in terms of design, is related to the size, with Pixel 4XL obviously the bigger phone. The size of camera module on the backside is also the same. However, it looks bigger on the Pixel 4 due to its small size.
Google has opted for the change of design in 4th version of Google Pixel phone series. Although the metal and glass finish are the same features that had been there in the Pixel 3 series, the look and feel of the Pixel 4 series are different. The black color variant, in both Pixel 4 and 4XL, comes with a glossy finish on the back, while other two color variants have matte finish.
While these phones look great, the functional advantage of their design is that they are not slippery. Matte finish on the back and a rubberized coating on the metal rim running around the phones’ circumference are the features that make both Pixel 4 and 4XL extremely easy to handle. Pixel is even better in handling due to its comparatively smaller size. You can use this phone with one hand.
There is no notch on the top side of both of the phones. Instead, there is a large forehead which is loaded with the sensors. On the right side of the phone, there is a power button and a volume rocker button. Both of the phones do not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the bottom side, there is a USB-C port.
The most astonishing feature of both phones’ display is the 90Hz refresh rate of screen. Both are flat screens and both have OLED panels. But both are not the same. The Pixel 4XL’s display is shaper than that of Pixel 4.
But since the display of Pixel 4 is a smaller phone as compared to Pixel 4XL, the difference becomes unnoticeable. There is a 5.7-inch FHD+ Smooth Display in Pixel 4, while the Pixel 4XL has a 6.3-inch QHD+ Smooth Display. Although you are not going to feel the difference between both of the displays, the one on Pixel 4XL surely looks better on paper.
Both of the phones are equipped with same processor, same RAM, and same storage options. The software operating the phones is also the same. Both of the phones come with Android 10 pre-installed.
Since both of the phones are equipped with high end specs, you are not going to be disappointed with the performance. The performance is complemented well by a 90Hz screen. And what may come as good news for Pixel users is that performance of Pixel 4 series is not affected by bugs, which were present in the Pixel 3 series phones.
Battery performance is where both of the phones seem failing to impress. The Google Pixel 4 comes with a 2,800mAh battery, while the Pixel 4XL comes with a 3,700mAh battery unit. Based on their specs and displays, the batteries look awkwardly smaller.
Although the battery of Pixel 4XL is certainly bigger than that of Pixel 4, one cannot expect it to perform as impressively as majority of flagships released by other manufacturers.
The camera performance of both these phones is the same, and it’s simply great. Both phones are equipped with the same camera sensors and lenses on the backside as well as on the front side. The camera software managing he performance of those sensors is also the same in both of the phones.
On the backside, there are 12.2MP and 16MP cameras. On the front side, there is an 8MP lens. The main lens on the backside is a wide-angle camera, while secondary lens is a telephoto camera.
From the perspective of camera performance, both of the phones offer great improvement over Pixel 3 phones, which also performed remarkably well even with a single camera on the backside. Night Sight is even better. And an added feature, which can be quite stunning, is the phone’s capability to shoot Astrophotography images.
With the help of dual exposure settings, you can take high quality images with clear shots of the objects that reflect light at different levels. And what may seem quite amazing to the photographers is the live HDR+ feature.
In other words, both of the phones are equipped with the same, but industry’s best, camera system.
