About Workshop

The workshop will primarily focus on addressing the challenges encountered in deploying and developing smart computing applications using the serverless paradigm. As we know, serverless computing, also known as Function as a Service (FaaS), has gained significant momentum in recent times and is deemed the next-generation cloud service delivery paradigm. Serverless computing will help users, and developers smoothly and seamlessly deploy their applications on smart computing environments like sensor-based technologies, the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, edge computing, big data analytics, machine learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence. All the service providers of the major league, i.e., Amazon, Google, Microsoft, have successfully launched commercially usable serverless computing platforms. Although the services are commercially available and functional, several unresolved and challenging issues persist.

Call for Papers

This workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange innovative ideas, latest research findings, practical experiences, lessons learned, and future directions to propel the research on utilizing serverless infrastructure for smart and pervasive computing. The topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Serverless for middleware applications

  • Serverless for off-premiss deployment

  • Serverless Edge Computing,

  • Serverless for smart and pervasive computing

  • Smart deployment of applications using Functions,

  • Virtualization platforms for serverless sandboxing

  • Serverless computing: Benchmarks and Use cases for smart computing applications,

  • Serverless computing: Models, Businesses, and Marketing for smart computing applications,

  • Benchmarks of serverless applications and services,

  • Serverless for the Internet of Things (IoT),

  • Blockchain-based implementation for serverless.

  • Security challenges in smart applications over serverless computing,

  • Smart computing function deployment strategies,

  • Load balancing in serverless for smart computing,

  • Economic models for serverless function deployments,

  • Serverless computing in the digital continuum

Selected papers will be considered for fast-track publication in a special issue Application of Serverless in IoT and Smart Services of MDPI Sensors journal after sufficient extension.

Submission Instructions

Paper submissions should be no longer than 6 pages with a font size of 10 using the IEEE conference template. Papers must be submitted electronically as PDF files. All submitted papers will be subject to single blind peer reviews by Technical Program Committee members and other experts in the field. All presented papers in the conference will be published in the proceedings of the conference and submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Authors are requested to first register their submissions and submit their manuscripts in PDF format via EDAS. Note that at least one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop to present the paper. Failure to present the paper at the workshop will result in the withdrawal of the paper from the Proceedings.
