Privacy Policy for Smart Blur - Share Your Screen Safely
Last updated: August 24, 2026
Smart Blur - Share Your Screen Safely ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps users blur or hide sensitive information on their screen before or during a screen share, video call, or recording.
Data Collection
The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, browsing history, or website content with the developer or any third party. The Extension does not use any remote server, analytics service, or advertising network.
Data Storage
The Extension stores the following information locally on the user's own device, using the standard Chrome storage API (chrome.storage.local):
- Blur settings (blur intensity, which blur modes are active)
- Meeting Mode on/off state
- Hide Tab Info on/off state
- The position and type of manually created blurs on specific pages, so they can be restored after a page reload
This data never leaves the user's device. It is not transmitted to the developer, to Google, or to any other party. It is not used for advertising, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to the Extension's core function of letting the user re-apply their blur preferences automatically.
Permissions
The Extension requests the following permissions solely to provide its blurring functionality:
- activeTab: to access and modify the currently active tab when the user interacts with the Extension
- storage: to save the user's blur settings locally, as described above
- scripting: to inject the code that draws and manages blur overlays on the page
- contextMenus: to provide a right-click menu option for quickly blurring selected content
- tabs: to detect recognized video-meeting websites so Meeting Mode can be enabled automatically, and to update the tab title/favicon when Hide Tab Info is turned on
- host_permissions (all sites): so the user can choose to blur sensitive content on any website they visit, not just a fixed list of sites
Third-Party Sharing
The Extension does not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer any user data to third parties.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
