Brief Bio
I am Shubhadeep. I was born and raised in a small village called Rajdharpur which belongs to Murshidabad district in West Bengal. I did my schooling from Lalbagh Singhi High School, Murshidabad. After that, I did Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University in 2012. I went to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur for higher studies and did Master of Technology in Thermal Science and Engineering in 2014. There I had the privilege to work with Prof. Suman Chakraborty. I completed Doctor of Philosophy under his guidance in 2018. After that, I had a great opportunity to join the Max Planck Institute as a Postdoc. I was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Marco G. Mazza in the Department of Dynamics of Complex Fluids, Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen, Germany. I came back to India and joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Guwahati in January 2020. Since September 2022, I am working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IISc, Bengaluru.
I want to live my life in academia. My focus is on both research and teaching. My research interests include Microfluidics and Microswimmers with a focus on understanding the hydrodynamics of active and passive particles in complex fluidic environments. I am dedicated to building an active research laboratory that will be working on challenging research problems in the field of Microfluidics and Microswimmers. Starting from fundamental research, the ultimate goal will be to apply the acquired knowledge and come up with useful technologies. I believe if we can motivate the students and create a proper environment for them then the students can do wonders in places like IISc.
