If you want a comprehensive, high-volume fuel system overhaul with extra tools for your garage, choose SMA ProQor Berryman 0116; if you need a targeted, emissions-focused treatment to clear specific check engine lights and restore catalytic efficiency, choose MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner.
• SMA ProQor Berryman 0116: Offers professional-grade strength in a massive 12-bottle kit that cleans the entire fuel train from tank to piston, but its sheer volume makes it better for fleet maintenance or long-term users than a one-off fix.
• MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner: Delivers a specialized formula designed specifically to tackle P0420/P0430 codes and smog issues in a compact 4-pack, though it does not promise to repair physically damaged converters or clean the full intake tract as broadly as the Berryman kit.
• The Verdict on Fit: The SMA ProQor bundle is for drivers who treat their vehicle like a project and need deep, systemic cleaning for city stop-and-go traffic, while MotorPower Care is for the driver whose dashboard is lit up with emission warnings and needs a direct solution.
The SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 kit is built for the owner who wants to do more than just top off their tank. The core value here lies in the B-12 Chemtool formulation, which is engineered to dissolve gum, varnish, and carbon deposits throughout the entire gasoline engine. When you drive a car primarily in city conditions, you deal with constant idling, short trips, and frequent acceleration from stops. These habits are notorious for leaving behind heavy carbon buildup on intake valves and combustion chambers. This cleaner circulates through the fuel lines, carburetors, and injectors as the engine runs, reaching parts that simple gas station additives often miss.
What sets this kit apart is the scope of its cleaning action. It doesn't just hit the injectors; it helps remove residues from fuel tanks, rings, and pistons. Regular use is marketed to support smoother idling and improved throttle response, which are critical feelings when navigating dense urban traffic where every second counts. Furthermore, the inclusion of an SMA ProQor branded shop towel adds a practical layer to the purchase. You aren't just buying a chemical; you are getting a ready-to-use kit for your next tune-up, allowing you to wipe spills or clean parts immediately after pouring the treatment.
This product is ideal for someone who views vehicle maintenance as a proactive habit rather than a reactive necessity. If you have a fleet of vehicles, or if you simply plan to keep your current car for another decade, the 12-pack provides enough volume to perform regular treatments without worrying about running out. However, if you only ever need a single bottle to fix a minor issue, this bulk kit might feel like overkill. It is designed for those who want to extend spark plug life and reduce long-term operating costs by keeping the fuel system pristine, rather than just masking symptoms.

In contrast, the MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner is laser-focused on a very specific problem: emissions and the dreaded check engine light. This 4-pack of 8.45 fl oz bottles is designed to help vehicles pass smog and emissions tests, specifically targeting codes like P0420 and P0430. These codes often indicate that the catalytic converter is not working efficiently, usually due to clogging from unburned fuel or contaminants. For the driver who has just failed a state inspection or sees a "Check Engine" light related to emissions, this product offers a direct path to resolution without the immediate cost of replacing hardware.
The formula is compatible with both gasoline and hybrid vehicles, making it versatile for modern fleets where hybrid technology is common. It acts as an O2 sensor and EGR cleaner, addressing the sensors that monitor exhaust flow and recirculation. The packaging clearly states a crucial limitation: this product will not repair a cracked, broken, or melted catalytic converter. It is highly effective for cleaning, but it cannot fix physical damage. This distinction is vital for buyers who might be hoping for a miracle cure for a mechanically destroyed part. It works best when the converter is intact but fouled.
This product fits the driver who needs a solution for a specific warning light or a failed smog test. It is a targeted intervention rather than a general health tonic. The smaller 8.45 fl oz size per bottle suggests it is meant for occasional, precise dosing rather than the heavy-duty, continuous regimen of the larger Berryman kit. If your primary concern is staying legal on the road and ensuring your emissions systems are flowing freely, this is the tool for the job. It is less about restoring peak performance across the whole engine and more about clearing the exhaust pathway so your sensors can read correctly again.
• Best for city driving cycles: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116, because its ability to clean intake valves and combustion chambers directly combats the heavy carbon buildup caused by stop-and-go traffic.
• Best for fixing Check Engine Lights (P0420/P0430): MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner, as it is explicitly formulated to address these specific emission-related fault codes.
• Best for total fuel system depth: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116, since it claims to clean the fuel tank, lines, injectors, carburetors, valves, rings, and pistons all at once.
• Best for small-scale, targeted fixes: MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner, offering a 4-pack that is easier to store and use for a single maintenance event without committing to a year's supply.
• Best for hybrid compatibility: Both work with hybrids, but MotorPower Care explicitly lists this feature, making it a strong choice for owners of newer, eco-friendly vehicles.
• Best for workspace convenience: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 includes a dedicated shop towel, adding utility for anyone doing hands-on maintenance.
• Best for long-term cost reduction: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116, by helping extend the life of spark plugs and fuel injectors through thorough system cleaning.
• Best for smog test preparation: MotorPower Care Catalytic Converter Cleaner, given its marketing focus on passing emissions tests and clearing specific diagnostic trouble codes.
I would buy the SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 for my daily commuter car used primarily for city driving. While the MotorPower Care option is excellent for solving a specific emissions code, I prefer the comprehensive approach of the Berryman kit. City driving creates a unique environment of constant idling and low-speed operation that builds up carbon faster than highway driving. By using the B-12 Chemtool regularly, I can prevent the problems that lead to check engine lights in the first place, rather than trying to fix them after they appear. The 12-pack ensures I can maintain a consistent cleaning schedule, which is the only way to truly keep a fuel system healthy over time. In my opinion, prevention is always superior to cure, and this kit gives me the volume and capability to do exactly that.
No, the manufacturer explicitly states this product will not repair a cracked, broken, or melted catalytic converter; it is strictly for cleaning and restoring function in intact units.
No, both products are designed as pour-in fuel treatments that circulate through the fuel tank and lines as the engine runs, requiring no disassembly or draining of the tank.
