On Saturday, March 2, 2019, SLST - East once again sponsored an activity table at the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier’s BookFest, an annual family celebration of books and literacy. It is a great opportunity to connect with children and parents from the community, as well as promote school librarians and libraries. This year’s special guest was the author/illustrator David Kirk. His newest book, My Hugging Rules, and the 25th anniversary of Miss Spider’s Tea Party were featured. Mr. Kirk engaged both children and adults by reading aloud both books. At the activity table, children were invited to complete a drawing from My Hugging Rules. The drawings featured animals giving hugs (pre-drawn by Kirk) -- the children then drew who or what they wanted to be hugged. Amy Merrill and Lonna Pierce represented SLST - East and were able to make connections with members of their current and former learning communities, as well as many others!
