We are a Christian Church,

love, hope, significance, joy, and peace in their lives.
A Great History
in Sligo and North Connacht
Methodists in Western Ireland can trace our roots back to the early days of the Methodist movement in the mid-18th Century when John Wesley and other circuit ministers would ride their horses from town to town sharing about God's desire for all people to live fully and freely within God's grace and love as shown through Jesus Christ.
The Methodist Church started in the 1700s as a reform movement within the Church of England. The first leader of the Methodist movement, the Rev. John Wesley, made many trips to Ireland and visited Sligo a total of eleven times between 1758 and 1789. A small number of Methodists opened a meeting-house in Bridge St. about 1775; it was described as "a small tumble-down building with a thatched roof". In 1802, a new church opened in Linenhall St. (now Old Market St.), The present building in Wine St. replaced it in 1832, and was completed at a cost of £800. The current sanctuary was remodeled in 2009.
Irish Methodists belong to a global community of Methodist expressions. Methodists believe that followers of Jesus demonstrate their love of God and love of neighbour by regularly: worshipping together; serving the community in acts of charity and mercy (feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, etc.); and engaging in social-justice (eg., alleviating poverty and slavery). Our Work and People
We are an active community of Christians seeking to engage our community for its welfare and well-being.
We belong to a circuit of other Methodist communities in North Connacht and Longford, which includes churches in Ballina, Collooney, Longford, Manorhamilton, and Sligo.
The work of Methodist congregations takes place most fruitfully when all people within the worshipping community join in with the life of the church, therefore, all are invited to share in the work and ministry of the church.
This happens in various forms such as people serving on church council or one of the service teams, such as Worship, Discipleship, Ministry & Outreach, or Administration and Communications
The pastoral work, teaching, preaching, and worship planning also occurs under the leadership of our circuit minister The Rev. Dr. Daniel Randall, in conjunction with a team of local preachers, musicians, and worship planning team.
Rev. Dan arrived from the USA with his family in November 2023, and he looks forward to joining in God's holy work of healing the world in this part of Ireland.
