Sleepy Eye High School Counseling

My name is Sarah Eckstein and I am the 7-12 school counselor at Sleepy Eye High School! I grew up in New Ulm, MN and went to college at Minnesota State University-Mankato for my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and the University of Wisconsin-Stout for my Master's degree in School Counseling. I am in my eighth year as a school counselor with Sleepy Eye Public Schools! I absolutely love what I do and have a passion for helping students be successful and overcome any obstacles they may face during such a pivotal time in life.

My husband Jim is a 6th grade teacher and we have been married for 3 years now. This past April we welcomed our son Blake into the world and couldn't be happier!

As a school counselor I work within the academic, personal/social, and career areas of the American School Counseling Association model to support the needs of our students. I work with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom. I help support academics by tracking grades, helping students find ways to improve their grades, learn better study/academic skills, and provide information to families about how to better support learning at home. I help students within the personal/social areas such as helping students navigate friendships, strengthen communication skills, anxiety or stress they may have, work to solve problems effectively and so much more. I also support students with any issues that may be going on outside of school that is inhibiting them from learning at school. I help students create after high school plans and navigate the career/college process.
