Carbon and Climate Change
How do greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change? Answering this question is a key first step towards understanding the importance of carbon credits. Check out the video below to learn more about the connection between carbon and climate.
What we covered
Greenhouse Gases are gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, contributing to the greenhouse effect - the warming of earth caused by the insulating impact of greenhouse gases. From driving a car to work to turning the lights on or running a load of laundry, many of our everyday actions emit greenhouse gases. The most notable greenhouse gases generated by human activities are:
Carbon Dioxide, or CO2
Methane, or CH4
Nitrous oxide, or N2O
The accelerating emission of greenhouse gases caused by human activity is producing long-term shifts in global temperature and weather - in other words, climate change.
The challenges presented by our changing climate are prompting many people, companies, and countries to increase their sustainability: to conserve resources for the future and maintaining a balance between ecological, economic, and social well-being.
