What data does Skydive Logger collect?
Skydive Logger is an iOS app which enables you to record your skydives so that you can review the data later. It can also be used to provide skydivers with location information during a jump. The basis for collecting this data is your consent, provided when you set Skydive Logger to record.
When Skydive Logger is in one of the record modes (i.e. "Auto-recording" or "Recording now") it collects data so that you can review your jump later, and also to determine when your jump started and when you landed. This information includes:
The current time
Location information
Altitude
Motion data, including acceleration and rotation rates
This data may be sent off your device in the following ways:
If you have iCloud backup enabled, the data recorded by Skydive Logger may be backed up to iCloud.
If you choose to share a dropzone or the log of a jump with someone (e.g. via AirDrop).
If you choose to send data to the developers of Skydive Logger.
When your device has an internet connection, Skydive Logger sends anonymised landing details (dropzone name, location, elevation and aircraft) to the creators of Skydive Logger. This data is used to improve the accuracy of dropzone details in the Skydive Logger database for the benefit of all users. It is not possible for the creators of Skydive Logger to identify an individual from this data.
In the unlikely event of Skydive Logger encountering a serious error, Skydiver Logger sends anonymised logs containing details of the cause of the error to the creators of Skydive Logger. This data is only sent if your device has an internet connection at the time of the error and is only used to diagnose and fix the cause of the error.
In some versions of Skydive Logger, if you explicitly consent (by enabling the feature), heart rate data recorded and stored by your device will be accessed by the app so that it can be displayed alongside other data from your jump. You may want to enable this feature so that you can see how calm you stayed in different situations, such as after a funnelled exit. We view this as sensitive data so Skydive Logger does not in any way store this data, and will never send it off your device, even if you share a jump log with someone.
How we handle the data you share with us
Any personal information that you choose to share with us (e.g. your name and email address) may be stored on third party cloud platforms (e.g. our email provider) that we use to develop and support Skydive Logger. This personal information will be stored and used for the sole purpose of developing and supporting Skydive Logger. We will not share your personal information with any other party or for any other reason without your consent, unless required to by law.
Unless otherwise required by law, at your request we will correct or delete any personal data we hold about you. Please contact us at skydiveLogger@dsoworld.co.uk to make such a request.
The details of dropzones sent to us will be included in future versions of Skydive Logger so all users can benefit.
Jump logs and any other anonymous data you send us will be used to fix bugs in Skydive Logger and help test future releases. In the future this data may be published to enable open source development of Skydive Logger.
If you choose to send us data that helps us to improve Skydive Logger, and you consent, we may publish your name along with those of other people who have helped improve the app. This includes the Acknowledgements section of the app.
