Of course new music has also been added. The new theme for CBS Mornings by Antfood has been added, both the weekday and Saturday editions. It incorporates the Sunday Morning theme, Abblasen, thereby (again) connecting the weekday show to the beloved Sunday edition.

Network News Music is a website by Victor Vlam, who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of news music. 1,876 hours, 2 minutes and 52 seconds. News music is rarely heard without voice-overs or fade outs to commercial, yet it leaves an impact on many people. Founded in 2002, this site is a museum for TV news themes past and present.

Television news music is used by television stations to brand their news operations. Each television station uses an identifiable news theme; some themes are used by multiple stations while others are composed specifically for a certain station.

In the United States, news themes used on local television stations are typically organized into news music packages, with each theme within a package sharing a similar musical signature. A typical television news music package consists of anywhere from 50 to as many as 1000 cuts of music. One of the largest news music packages is Overture, created by Stephen Arnold Music. This package consists of a total of 36 themes and over 1000 cuts.

Stations within the same market area will always use different music packages, unless they are related to each other in some manner; this could be the case if two stations are owned by the same company or operated by the same company under a local marketing agreement (LMA), or one station contracts out its news production to the other. For example, in Fort Myers, Florida, ABC affiliate WZVN-TV is owned by Montclair Communications, Inc., while NBC affiliate WBBH-TV in the same market is owned by Hearst Television, which operates WZVN under an LMA. That said, both stations currently use This is Your News by Gari Communications. In newscasts airing on WZVN, NBC network ID stingers can be heard in the news opens, even though WZVN-TV is an ABC affiliate.

Some news music packages are custom made for one station only, as opposed to syndicated packages which are used by multiple stations. While syndicated packages are normal in the industry, there are some stations that still use custom-made packages. Such examples include:

Some news music packages are accompanied by a station image package, featuring promotional jingles which often share the same musical signature as the parent news music package. Often, imaging packages include jingles for the holiday and elections. Such promotional packages first came to prominence in the United States in the 1970s, and had become widespread by the 1980s, used by many (though not all) television stations. Many memorable packages, such as Hello[6] and Turn to... by Frank Gari, were composed during this era, and some were even used on international and non-English stations.

Certain news music packages used in the United States have also been used worldwide. Eyewitness News by Frank Gari has been picked up for use in overseas markets; it has been used by Hong Kong Cable News for its morning newscast, and POP TV in Slovenia for its main newscasts.

The News in Music (Tabloid Lament) (2017) by Thomas Meadowcroft is an orchestral work of TV news music specifically written for the concert hall.[15] Commissioned by the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, the work positions orchestral news music, stylistically reminiscent of TV news music cues from the 1970s and 1980s, in a live, acoustic setting.[16]

At the time Williams was approached to write the NBC News suite, he was already well known for his work on Star Wars, Superman, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. NBC engaged Williams due to the network's desire to contrast with the synthesized music common for news programs at the time. Williams stated he wanted to convey the concepts of nobility of purpose, consistency, and dignity. The original recordings were made with an 80-piece orchestra.[2]

The Mission was re-recorded in October 2004 with a 100-piece orchestra conducted by Williams at the Sony Pictures Studios. This recording has a crisper and cleaner sound.[3] The opening theme of The Mission was updated on November 8, 2004, in preparation for Brian Williams succeeding Tom Brokaw as the anchor on Nightly News, and the closing theme of The Mission was updated on March 26, 2007, as the program began broadcasting in high-definition. Another update was made in 2011, containing only subtle changes.[3]

Variations of The Mission have also been used for NBC News at Sunrise prior to 1996, for The Chris Matthews Show, and for Today from 1985[3] to 2013, when it was replaced with a new piece by Adam Gubman conveying a "more newsy and less cinematic" sound.[5] The theme has also been used on some NBC affiliates for their local newscasts.

Australia's Seven Network adopted the original theme for its news bulletins in the late 1980s. Seven has since updated its version of the theme three times independently from NBC that each have utilized a modernized "hard news" cadence compared to the original theme's strictly orchestral composition. One Seven Network affiliate, TNT (for its Nightly News) in Tasmania, also use the theme for their local news programming. Before 2015, the intro for the news of the Radio Television of Djibouti also used to feature a short part of the Seven Network's theme.

Scherzo for Today is a short two-minute piece composed for use as the opening theme of NBC's Today. Its mood was intended to be celebratory and flashy.[2] Like most scherzos, it is light and upbeat, and utilizes ternary or "ABA" form. The "A" theme, carried by the strings, is rather jumpy and loud, with the brass serving as a raucous accompaniment, and the "B" theme, the theme of The Today Show, is smoother and more melodic. The new music gave the program a distinctly modern and refined sound.

The Pulse of Events was originally intended for midterm election coverage on November 4, 1986[6] and was later adopted by Meet the Press in 1990[7] and breaking news interruptions in 1993.[8][3] It was meant to convey a worldly and serious tone.[2] Slate characterized the piece as having "fast, complicated modulations that sound more urgent and wary than [The Mission]: They foreground the show's relentless, logical ethos."[4]

A collaboration of exceptionally talented musicians and vocalists has brought a new main theme to Last Epoch in the Eternal Legends Update. One of the unique elements of this track is that it is sung in Old Norse. Today our composer shares some insights into how such a project comes about and a few details about the lyrics themselves.

This is the main theme for Last Epoch presented with vocalists singing in Old Norse. The language has an ancient and mysterious sound, it fits the world of Last Epoch very well. The theme will be woven throughout the game soundtrack in different settings, most often as an instrumental piece, which will give it a more noble quality.

After the percussive intro, the melodic part of the theme begins. It starts with a male choir singing lyrics about creatures coming from the void that bring desolation and death. The orchestra enters, and it supports the folk instruments and vocalists. After the main theme is sung, the percussive part comes in again. Then we feature the vocalists singing a variation of the theme in a more exposed setting. A contrasting lyrical section follows; it is more moody, with a spotlight on the female vocalist. The piece concludes with a reprisal of the second half of the main theme sung very aggressively with the orchestra in full force.

Smith, a classically trained musician, said his students worked with sound in two different ways: using previously recorded sound called samples; or using virtual instruments in the DAW that can play specific musical notes. The work is usually done with a synthesizer that creates sounds from scratch on the computer. Smith described the music as having an electronic sound.

The students whose music was chosen have been waiting for the new season to see if their pieces will be used in the show. The State Show chose 16 pieces of music created by 11 students for consideration in upcoming shows. The students are: Ty Bloomfield, Elliot Butler, Reed Cavi, Ian Cooper, Mike Endres, Noah Marney, Kyle Olalde-Welling, Josh Palomar, Noah Renken-Kapatos, Cole Richey, and Kirsten Townander.

Endres, a music composition major, is interested in composing for television, movies, or video games. He said the class was one of his favorites of the semester. Students learned how to make and manipulate sounds using the virtual synthesizer.

Endres is classically trained and plays clarinet and piano. He said the difference from composing traditional music was learning how to make sounds via the virtual synthesizer. The assignment also required each student to use a unique sound that they created or one created by a classmate.
