Use the bottle within 3-4 months for best results...

The DHA in all self tanners turns green after several months and we don't want your product to spoil by letting it sit around without being used. Storing it in the refridgerator will extend shelf life. We would love for it to last longer, but we also do our best to keep the product as natural as possible, so we try to avoid unnecessary chemicals and preservatives.

How to get the best sunless tan results?

EXFOLIATE! EXFOLIATE! Exfoliating your skin is extremely important when it comes to wanting a smooth and bronzed result. Using our Skinerals Scoria Exfoliating Body Scrub with the Skinerals Exfoliating Mitt will ensure that your dead skin is removed and new skins cells are rejuvenated. Not only does this guarantee a longer lasting tan, but it also helps to apply the formula evenly on the skin's surface. It is important to pay attention to exfoliating the knees, elbows and heels prior to your sunless tanner application!

Our favorite method is to shower and exfoliate in the evening and then apply the self tanner. The next morning, shower as normal and you should have a beautiful, bronze glow. You can literally tan in your sleep! If the color is not dark enough, you can apply again or use the Amber Glow Tan Extender. Californium created our standard sun-kissed glow and Onyx is a darker just-got-back-from-a-tropical-vacation look (or for those with naturally darker/olive skin).

What not to do before applying Sunless Tanner?

DO NOT use lotion, moisturizer, make-up, perfume or any product that keeps your skin from fully absorbing the sunless tanner. These products will block the sunless tanner and will form splotchy areas. Waxing or shaving should be done at least 12-24 hours prior to your application to ensure the pores of your skin are closed.

Can I used the Californium Sunless Bronzer on my face?

Absolutely! We recommend using our applicator mitt and do your body first and with what is left on the mitt use that on your face. Don't apply new mousse directly to your face to avoid being "too dark".

What to do immediately after applying tanner?

Leave it! Let it soak into your skin 4 to 8 hours while wearing your most loose fitting clothes. Please wait for at least 24-48 hrs to use the Skinerals Amber Glow Tan Extender. We recommend you apply this every other day to help prolong your beautiful tan. Important Note: Do not apply tan extender before working out, because body sweat may release the color on clothing and cause streaking.

Things to watch for?

During the early stages of your sunless tanner, you should refrain from getting your skin wet or sweating. Do not rub in if your skin gets splashed. Our favorite trick is to add a little tan extender to the splashed area blending to an even color.

What products should I be using when bathing?

It is imperative that you use a body wash that does not contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) or sulfates. This ingredient will not only dry out your skin but it will shorten the life of your sunless tan or cause streaking if used before application. Our recommendation is to use the Skinerals Jade Liquid Body Wash to achieve the longest lasting results and for optimal application of our self tanner.

Is using self tanner safe?

Doctors will agree that using our self-tanners containing the FDA approved DHA formula is much safer than lying out in the sun for a long period of time or getting a spray tan, where the ingredients may be inhaled.

What about swimming?

If you are looking to keep that beautiful tan for as long as possible, we suggest you refrain from using hot baths, spas and chlorinated pools . These activities will reduce the life of your sunless tanner.

How to clean the Skinerals Tanning Applicator Mitt?

You can hand wash in the sink using soap and warm water for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side and wringing out the mitt to squeeze out the extra tanner or lotion. The Skinerals Back Band applicator is machine washable.

How to use the back applicator wand?

We suggest sliding the black applicator mitt over the back wand and using the bungee cord to keep it firmly attached and applying that way (you can do the same with the exfoliator mitt in the shower for your back). Using the mitt with the wand means no mess to clean up--you can simply wash the applicator mitt when finished and the back stick is still like brand new. The mitt creates a slightly different finish than the pad on the stick to apply the solution and is easier to wash, but you can certainly use the back wand without a mitt, as well. It's up to each individual's personal preference.
