Updated 1 October 2026.
Ski Nav provides ski-resort maps and route planning. It is developed by James Chancellor. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact ski.nav.app@gmail.com.
This policy describes the free Android and iOS releases, version 2.2.0, and the continuing service for older Ski Nav versions. The free releases do not access contacts, offer phone registration or sign-in, send verification SMS, share location with friends, or offer in-app purchases.
If you grant location permission, the free Android and iOS releases use your position while the app is active to show your marker on the map, order resorts by distance and support routes from your position. GPS coordinates are processed on your phone and are not sent to our map service. These releases do not track or share your position in the background.
Route preferences, resort selection and other app settings are stored locally on your phone. You can use maps and route planning without granting location permission.
When you request resort information or a map, the app connects to our service over HTTPS. The request includes the requested resort/map identifier and ordinary network information such as your IP address and user agent. Google Cloud hosts the service on our behalf.
The service records request URLs, IP addresses, user agents, timestamps, HTTP status, response size and request latency. Standard hosting and application logs are generated automatically and are available for diagnosing service problems. Cloud Run request logs are retained for 30 days. These records include which resort maps were requested, but the free client does not upload your GPS coordinates or your lift/piste searches.
We do not use these logs to build user profiles, recognize returning users, infer your location from your IP address or analyse resort popularity. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
Earlier versions of Ski Nav supported phone verification and location sharing with selected contacts. We continue to host the backend for those versions. Unlike the new free Android and iOS releases, that service processes phone numbers, sharing-recipient numbers and location records. Contact names are not sent to the sharing service. If legacy SMS verification is used, the phone number and verification message are passed to Amazon Web Services (Amazon SNS) and the mobile provider for delivery. The legacy SMS implementation also records the phone number and verification code in service logs.
Google Cloud stores legacy user and location records. User records are retained to support that service and currently have no automatic expiry; you can request deletion through the contact address above. Location objects have a lifecycle rule making them eligible for deletion after one day. Deletion is not instantaneous, and deleted Cloud Storage copies may remain recoverable for seven days.
Records from the former AWS-hosted database and location cache are no longer retained. This does not mean that records in the continuing Google Cloud service have been deleted.
If you choose to email support, the app opens your email application. You decide whether to send the message. We receive the email address, message and any attachments you send; the app may suggest the selected resort as the message subject.
We keep support correspondence while it is needed to handle your enquiry, follow up unresolved issues or meet other legitimate requirements. We review it annually and delete correspondence and attachments that are no longer needed. This is a review process, not automatic deletion of every message after one year.
Send privacy questions, account-deletion requests for older versions, or other data-deletion requests to ski.nav.app@gmail.com. We handle requests manually and may ask for information needed to verify your request and identify the relevant records. We remove data that is no longer needed or must be erased. If we need to retain information for a legitimate reason, we explain that in our response. Deleted Cloud Storage records may remain in recovery storage for seven days; ordinary service logs expire after 30 days.
The free Android and iOS releases have no app account to delete. Locally stored preferences can be removed by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.
