If you want a complete, weather-tight locking mechanism to secure your truck bed contents during winter driving, choose SKARUMMER 2; if you need a precise internal linkage repair to restore dual-handle functionality on an existing box, choose Newace Truck Tool Box. These two items serve entirely different purposes within the ecosystem of truck storage, and confusing them will lead to frustration. One is a primary latch system designed to replace worn-out hardware on smaller compartments, while the other is a specific connector rod meant to fix the mechanical link between handles on larger, dual-action toolboxes. I have analyzed the specifications for both to help you decide which part your vehicle actually requires before you make a purchase.
• SKARUMMER 2: Offers a heavy-duty, single-point stainless steel T-handle with integrated gaskets for sealing; trade-off is that it is a standalone unit not designed for dual-paddle linkage systems.
• Newace Truck Tool Box: Provides a high-strength steel connector rod to bridge dual paddle handles and restore smooth operation; trade-off is that it is purely an internal component and does not include the external handle or lock itself.
• Who should buy SKARUMMER 2: Truck owners needing to replace a broken or missing T-handle latch on small boxes, campers, or utility trailers where a single point of contact is sufficient.
• Who should buy Newace: Mechanics or DIY enthusiasts dealing with a toolbox lid that won't open from one side because the internal connecting rod has snapped or separated.
The SKARUMMER 2 is built as a robust replacement for the front-facing hardware of a toolbox. When you look at the design, you see a single-point latch constructed from high-quality 304 stainless steel with a bright chrome plating finish. This isn't just about looks; the material choice suggests a product intended to withstand the harsh elements, including road salt and moisture, which are critical factors when considering winter driving conditions. The surface treatment provides durability and a long service life, ensuring that the latch doesn't rust out after a few seasons of exposure.
What sets this unit apart in practical application is the inclusion of anti-water rubber gaskets. For anyone who hauls tools, equipment, or sensitive gear in their truck bed, keeping water out is non-negotiable. The gasket seals the gap between the door and the frame, preventing rain, snowmelt, and slush from seeping into the compartment. This feature makes it particularly relevant for winter driving scenarios where temperature fluctuations can cause condensation or freezing issues inside an unsealed box. The T-handle itself lifts and folds out of the way when not in use, offering a clean profile that reduces snagging hazards while still providing a flexible rotation for fast locking and unlocking.

This product is ideal for users who have lost a latch entirely or whose current mechanism is so worn that it no longer secures the door properly. The dimensions are specific enough to ensure a fit on small toolboxes, electrical cabinets, RVs, and trailers. However, it is important to note that this is a single-point system. If your truck bed features a large toolbox with two separate handles on either side that need to operate in unison, this latch will not solve that problem. It is a standalone solution for securing a door, not a connector for a complex linkage.
In contrast, the Newace Truck Tool Box Rod Connector is a highly specialized internal component. Its sole function is to restore the mechanical connection between dual paddle handles located on opposite sides of a toolbox lid. If you have ever struggled to lift a heavy toolbox lid because one side feels loose or disconnected, this is likely the culprit. The Newace kit replaces the damaged connector rod that runs through the interior of the box, bridging the gap between the two handles so that pulling one side automatically lifts the other.
The build quality focuses on strength and compatibility. Made from high-strength metal with a corrosion-resistant coating, this rod is engineered to survive the vibration and jostling of a truck bed environment. The coating is essential here, as the interior of a toolbox can be prone to humidity and condensation, especially in colder months. The product specifies a universal fit for rod diameters ranging from 0.15 inches to 0.275 inches, making it compatible with major industry brands like UWS, Better Built, Dee Zee, Kobalt, and Husky. This versatility means you don't need to hunt for a brand-specific part number; if your rod falls within that diameter range, this connector should work.
The installation process is described as quick and easy, allowing you to fix a broken linkage in minutes without specialized tools beyond what might be included in the kit. The package comes with a bonus Allen wrench, which adds value by ensuring you have the right tool for the job immediately. However, this is strictly a repair part. It does not include the external handles, keys, or locking mechanisms. If your toolbox is missing its latches entirely or the handles are cracked, buying just these rods will not get your box open. You need the full assembly for that.
• Best for complete door security → SKARUMMER 2, as it includes the handle, lock, and gasket for a full sealing solution.
• Best for fixing dual-handle synchronization → Newace Truck Tool Box, as it specifically connects the two paddles for simultaneous lifting.
• Best for weather resistance → SKARUMMER 2, due to its dedicated anti-water rubber gaskets that seal the exterior interface.
• Best for restoring mechanical function → Newace Truck Tool Box, as it repairs the internal linkage without replacing the entire faceplate.
• Best for small compartments and trailers → SKARUMMER 2, given its single-point design fits smaller doors and utility boxes effectively.
• Best for large, branded industrial boxes → Newace Truck Tool Box, since it targets the specific linkage needs of major manufacturer models like UWS and Dee Zee.
• Best for winter sealing → SKARUMMER 2, because the gasket prevents snow and ice from jamming the latch mechanism from the outside.
• Best for minimal weight impact → Newace Truck Tool Box, offering a lightweight fix that adds negligible mass to the toolbox structure.
After reviewing the specifications and intended use cases for both products, I would choose the SKARUMMER 2 if my primary goal was to secure a toolbox against the elements during winter driving. The presence of the anti-water gasket and the sturdy stainless steel construction gives me confidence that my tools will stay dry and locked down, even in harsh weather. It solves the fundamental problem of a door that doesn't close tightly or securely. However, if your toolbox is already sealed and locked but simply won't open from one side because the internal rod is broken, then the Newace Truck Tool Box is the only logical choice. It addresses a very specific mechanical failure that the SKARUMMER 2 cannot touch. Ultimately, the decision comes down to whether you need a new locking face or a broken internal spine repaired. For most general maintenance needs involving security and weatherproofing, the SKARUMMER 2 offers the more comprehensive solution.
Yes, the SKARUMMER 2 includes anti-water rubber gaskets specifically designed to seal the door against moisture, making it suitable for snowy and wet conditions.
The Newace kit is engineered for rod diameters between 0.15" and 0.275", so it will fit most standard dual-paddle systems regardless of handle thickness, provided the internal rod matches this size.
Installation is designed to be simple, taking only a few minutes to replace broken or worn latches on various vehicles and trailers using standard tools.
No, the Newace product is strictly a replacement rod connector; it restores the link between existing handles but does not include the external paddle handles or locks themselves.
