My Family’s Experience Seeing Six on Broadway
When my family and I saw Six on Broadway Theatre District in New York City, we weren’t quite sure what to expect—but we ended up loving it. The show felt less like a traditional musical and more like being at a high-energy pop concert. From the first song to the last, the actors were fun, energetic, and completely engaging.
The music was one of my favorite parts. The songs are upbeat and incredibly catchy—the kind that get stuck in your head long after you leave the theater. Each queen steps forward to tell her story through music, and the performers have so much personality that it’s impossible not to get pulled into the show.. One of my favorite songs from Six the Musical is No Way. I love how fun and upbeat it feels, even though it tells the story of Anne Boleyn, whose life ended so tragically. The confident, “sorry not sorry” attitude in the song makes it feel powerful and modern, and it really shows how the queens in the musical get to tell their stories in their own bold way.
Another favorite song of mine from Six the Musical is Haus of Holbein. I love the funny part about not liking her profile picture, because it makes the story feel so modern and relatable. The song is silly, catchy, and a really creative way to show how Henry VIII was basically choosing wives the way people might scroll through a dating site today.
My personal favorite queen was Catherine Howard, especially during the song All You Wanna Do. That number was powerful and emotional, reflecting how she was very young when she became queen and how powerful men in her life pressured her—something historians now say contributed to her tragic fate. My whole family ended up picking their favorite queens during the show—but in the end we all agreed they’re best when they perform together.
The costumes were absolutely amazing. Each actress had her own unique look that was bright, vibrant, and completely covered in sparkle. What really stood out to me was how the costumes caught and reflected the stage lights—every movement made them shimmer and shine in such a cool, eye-catching way. Even though they all share a similar overall style, each outfit is clearly designed to match the personality of the queen wearing it. That combination of individuality and sparkle makes them incredibly fun and exciting to watch on stage.
One of the most fun surprises was how the show made us curious about the real history. Afterward, my family and I looked up Henry VIII and each of his wives, read historical facts, and compared them to the musical. Some parts are very accurate:
• Catherine of Aragon really did fight to remain queen, refusing Henry’s attempts to annul their marriage.
• Anne Boleyn played a key role in England’s religious changes, pushing Henry toward creating the Church of England.
• Jane Seymour did die shortly after giving birth to Henry’s only male heir, and Henry was buried beside her.
• Anne of Cleves actually ended up safe and wealthy, with Henry granting her houses and income after their divorce.
• Catherine Parr really was an educated writer and published books under her own name.
The musical exaggerates personalities and simplifies events for fun. For example, Anne Boleyn’s witty chaos is amplified for comedy, and the queens perform like modern pop stars—obviously different from historical reality. Still, the show reflects each queen’s essential story while keeping it fun, upbeat, and concert-like.
Overall, seeing Six was a really fun experience for my family. The music is catchy, the performers are entertaining from start to finish, and the story is creative and engaging. Best of all, it actually made us curious to learn more about the real history behind the show—which made the experience even more memorable.
