1. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

The second Mad Max movie is about fuel: who has it, who needs it, and what will be done to get it. Once Mad Max begins barreling that eighteen-wheeler down the highway through a mob of crazies out to stop him with an army of whacked-out cycles, trucks, and hot rods, there's no end to the action.

2. The Terminator

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the unstoppable killer robot from the future sent back from the future to eliminate Earth's hope, Sarah Connor the mother-to-be of the man who will become the leader of the resistance to the cyborg rule. It's one long explosive chase, with no way to stop an invincible robot.

3. Die Hard

It's Bruce Willis' turn to fight the terrorists -- he just keeps coming back, no matter what they throw at him. In this first film of the series, the bad guys have hijacked a skyscraper, and wisecracking John McClane becomes the monkey-wrench to their plans.

4. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

The second Terminator film puts Arnold in the same role as a cyborg, but here, he's a good guy. Robert Patrick is the liquid-metal T-1000 sent from the future to take out Arnold and Sarah. Chases, Stunts and special effects are all fantastic.

5. Speed

A bus? Yeah, a bus. But, Dennis Hopper's the creepy bad guy, and Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have to survive his devious plans, which somehow involve a fully loaded speeding bus that, if stopped, blows up. It's a stunt-filled chase with no pursuer and very little gunfire, but the tension is unbelievable.

6. The Matrix

This Wachowski brothers film is a landmark for special effects, martial arts, and sheer ingenuity. There's "bullet-time" to puzzle you, and Keanu Reeves is so cool as Neo. What is real? At the end, do we really know?
