I play the Sims 4 in german, because it's my native language and everything feels much more natural. But what really bugs me is that the quality of the translation is (and has also been in the Sims 3) unbelievably bad:

incorrect translations (example: when a teenager goes to school, it requires them to reach level 3 in any skill, right? In german it says you need to reach level 1 in three skills. That's just what it says - the game behaves as intended, but the description is misleading. Similar thing happens when you join the criminal career - the daily task is to perform mischevious interactions. In german, it instead tells you to perform mean interactions, which is just a wrong description and doesn't help with your daily task. I needed a few sims days to figure that one out.)

A positive thing however is that they managed to make a few great jokes within book titles and descriptions and the like and some of them can't be translated but rather are a play with german words. So props for that. It still annoys me to death that I can never be sure if a whim description actually means what it says etc.

TLDR: german version of the game has bad grammar&spelling, incorrect translations, inconsistent naming, and a super small pool of names for random townies. How are your non-english versions of the game?

I decided to play sims again after a while, and redownloaded it in a language which I have been trying to learn for over two years. Turns out, I am learning useful vocabulary very fast because of the combination of seeing the words and actions performed together. Its a fun way to feel a bit more productive and learn while playing sims!

I don't know if this workaround is still necessary since I can't install in Dutch at all but at this point the work around is not possible because I can't switch language after installation for any game.

Thank you for the link but doesn't help. The link is exactly the method I used for sims 3 and 4 to install the Dutch version so I was tech savvy enough to figure this out on my own. For sims 3 and 4 this works. . Unfortunately it is not possible for sims medieval. It only shows one language: English. I don't have the option to select any other language.

I have the same problem. I've played it in swedish on origin. And I can install both the sims 3 and the sims 4 in swedish on ea app but only english shows up when I try to install the sims medieval. And it's the only game in my library that has this problem

Yup it seems to me that the EA app only has the language files for english in it and it will only get fixed if they update it. Which is a really bad look for EA since it says the game is avaliable in dutch, english, french, german, italian, polish, russian, spanish and swedish but you can only play it in english.

I just got a new computer and was going to download the sims 4 game on it. However when I was going to download it on the EA app (I have a pc) the only language in the list to choose from was English. I have played my game on Swedish ever since I got it and would like to continue that. Do anyone know what I can do to get to play on the Swedish language? I am inserting a picture of how it looks like, I need help with this because I have no idea how to do it. Thankful for any help!

@Tikkizen It sounds like you might have the language-locked English-only version of Sims 4 on your account in addition to the global version. You have two options here. One is to contact EA customer support and ask that the English-only version of the base game be removed from your account. Make sure support also checks for and removes, if necessary, the Digital Deluxe upgrade.

@JeniJenfred I've moved your post to a thread covering the game switching to English, which might not be the same issue as the one covered by the thread where you originally posted. The only way to switch languages is to uninstall Sims 4 and reinstall in the language of your choice, unfortunately. The question is whether German is still an option for you.

Rename that folder, for example put a - after the 4, and the EA App will think the game is no longer installed. Tell it to download, and before starting, it'll ask you what language you want to use. Let me know what options you see.

hey, i live in finland.i had sims 4 in finnish on my old computer. my computer broke. On my new computer i downloaded the game again but now it is in english. I tryed to change the language but there isnt the finnish option anymore. My kid is not so good in english so im wonderin how can we get our language back again?

In the morning I had The Sims 4 in Czech language. Then I had to uninstall it and install it again, because the game didn't work because of some bad modes. After I installed the game back, the Czech language was lost. Any setting I can find offers any language other than Czech. I wrote to support, but no two support people could help me. For nine years, Czech worked. English is very uncomfortable for me in the game. Can this problem be fixed?

However, it really is interesting that you're missing your native language. I thought only us from Poland had problems with only having three options, all Slavic. I wonder if more Europeans are experiencing this, it would be really weird if that was a problem in Spain or France, since they are not even close to Poland or Czech Republic.

With all the fuzz with Ranch addon I ended unistalling Sims4 completely and now after I downloaded it again it's in english, it used to be in finnish. No language popup as installation started, no language option for finland in EA app... Locale is shown as Finland.

I bought The Sims Medieval months ago and played in a long time in german. A few weeks ago i had to setup my PC again, so everything was delete of course. Today i wanted to download and install the game again trough Origin. When i had t choose the language there was only english to choose. Allthough I download and and istalled it because I thought maybe its in german. But of course it wasnt. So how can I play it in german again?

Thank you for your patience everyone. The Origin team changed the English-only language version to a version that includes several languages. It is possible that you will have to get in contact with a game advisor in order to get this new version. Feel free to point them to this thread if they have further questions.

I bought this game a few years ago and wanted to reinstall it now, but I only can do so in english instead of german, which is the language I purchased it in and played it in before. Also, some modifications are missing, like in the character design options, when it comes to make up for instance. That wouldn't be as bad, but the language thing is bugging me.

WooHoo is one of the most iconic interactions in The Sims franchise, serving as a solid example of how the series uses nonsense language at times while still managing to get a point across, and it's a term that needed to be localized into multiple languages. The mechanic is set up so that any kind of player can understand what it means without getting too technical or vulgar. As one can probably imagine, it was no easy task for developers to find equally appropriate translations in all of the global languages The Sims has been ported into, and examining the end results is a fun way to examine how language works in The Sims. Fortunately, to make it easier, players from all around the globe have compiled a list of WooHoo equivalents and their approximate meanings, though not all of them translate perfectly into English.

Given that The Sims is arguably the most popular life simulation game on the market, it's no surprise that the series has become something of a global phenomenon over the years. The Sims 4 alone is available to play in more than 18 languages, ranging from Traditional Chinese to Russian and Swedish. Players can switch their game's language at will through the Origin launcher on PC, though it's worth noting that the language will also have to be changed across all of the Sims 4 DLC packs the player might own. Not only is this tool helpful for those living outside of North America or in an area where English otherwise isn't the primary language, but it's also a great trick for people who are trying to learn other languages in a more immersive way.

While The Sims iconic fictional nonsense language, Simlish, sounds more or less the same across different languages, the UI relies on text just as much as it does iconography and therefore will appear different when translated. One curious Sims player took to Reddit after discovering that WooHoo appeared instead as iqui-iqui in Spanish, inquiring what words were used in other languages and what they might mean in English. The community was quick to begin providing translations from their localized copy of The Sims, and the resulting list is an interesting look into the global community that surrounds The Sims franchise.

The expression in Dutch is O Jaa, which can be almost directly translated as Oh Yeah in English. In most languages, The Sims developers at Maxis tried to aim for an appropriate noise or saying associated with the interaction as opposed to a direct translation of what was happening.

In German, Techtelmechtel is often considered to be an outdated word for the action of WooHooing, perhaps comparable to expressions like Hanky-Panky in older English vernacular. It seems likely that language experts building translations for The Sims series deliberately searched for older phrases or nonsensical sounds to help the interaction fall more in line with the rest of The Sims franchise's lighthearted tone.

The Russian translation from The Sims 3 is arguably one of the most interesting global translations if only because compared to WooHoo in many other languages it isn't at all censored or hidden behind outdated and silly slang phrases or onomatopoeias. In Russian, the romance option to make Sims WooHoo is listed as  , which translates very directly into "have sex". What's more interesting is the fact that The Sims 3 has a lower age restriction than The Sims 4 despite the fact that the action was changed to WooHoo in the latter game. e24fc04721
