This Privacy Policy explains how Simply Awake (“the App”) handles your data.
Simply Awake is a non-lucrative meditation app created by Julien Birabent.
The meditation content in the App is authored by Angelo Dillulo. All rights to this content remain with Angelo Dillulo. The App only provides a way to access and listen to this material and does not sell it.
We collect and store only the minimum data needed for the App to function.
2.1 Local app data (on your device)
Stored only on your device:
The meditations you have played
Your favorites
Basic usage timestamps (e.g. last played time)
Why:
To remember what you listened to, show your history, and keep your favorites.
If you uninstall the App or clear its data, this local data is normally deleted.
2.2 Account data (if you sign in with Google)
Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive via Firebase Authentication:
A unique Firebase user ID
Your Google email address
Your display name
Your profile image URL (if available)
Why:
So we can associate your favorites and listening history with your account and, if enabled, synchronize them across devices or after reinstalling the App.
We do not access your contacts, photos, messages, or precise location.
2.3 Technical and error data
The App and the underlying platform (Google / Android / Firebase) may collect technical information such as:
Crash reports and error logs
Basic device and OS information (model, OS version, etc.)
Why:
Only to diagnose problems, improve stability, and understand when something goes wrong.
We do not use this information to personally identify you or to show ads.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Your data may be processed by:
Google and Firebase services, to provide Google Sign-In, authentication and, if used, cloud storage or synchronization.
Google Play / Android, for crash reporting and technical diagnostics.
These providers act as processors or infrastructure providers and have their own privacy policies.
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights or the safety of users.
Local data:
Stored on your device in the App’s private storage.
To remove it, you can uninstall the App or clear its data in your device settings.
Account-linked data in the cloud (if you sign in):
May be stored on secure servers via Firebase and kept as long as needed to provide the App’s features.
You can sign out at any time in the App (if available). You can also email us to request deletion of account-linked data.
If you are in the EU/EEA or a region with similar laws, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can exercise these rights by contacting us.
The App requests only the permissions necessary to provide audio playback and basic functionality.
We do not request access to your contacts, SMS, microphone, camera, or precise location.
Below are the permissions declared in the Android manifest and how we use them:
INTERNET
Used to connect to the internet in order to:
Download or stream meditation audio files
Authenticate you when you sign in with Google
Communicate with backend or Firebase services (if enabled)
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
Used to check whether your device is online or offline, so the App can:
Avoid starting network requests when there is no connection
Decide when it can safely sync or download content
FOREGROUND_SERVICE
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK
These permissions allow the App’s playback service to run in the foreground with a notification while audio is playing.
Why: to keep meditation audio playing reliably in the background (e.g. when the screen is off), in accordance with Android’s requirements.
WAKE_LOCK
Used to keep the device from going fully to sleep while audio is actively playing, so that long meditations are not interrupted unexpectedly.
We do not use this permission to keep your device awake unnecessarily.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (only on older Android versions, up to SDK 28)
Used to read and write meditation audio files or related App data on your device’s storage on older Android versions.
Why: to allow the App to store and access downloaded meditation files locally so you can listen offline.
We do not scan or access unrelated personal files on your device.
If you do not want to grant storage permissions on older Android versions, some download or offline playback features may be limited, but you can still use the App’s core online features where supported.
