Our Project
We created an emergency medical sign language booklet that includes essential words and phrases in five different sign languages (American, British, Chinese, Spanish, and French) for Deaf and Hard of Hearing immigrants in the Pennsylvania area. Many immigrants struggle with communicating with others due to the language barriers, and for Deaf and Hard of Hearing immigrants, their struggle extends beyond learning just one language. In addition to learning English, they have to also learn another Sign Language foreign to their native language.
Our goal in creating this booklet is to mitigate struggles by providing some way for medical professionals to communicate with them. Although our booklet is brief, we included the basics of each Sign Language that will be sufficient for understanding during emergencies.
