Welcome to Sidewalk ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains in detail how we collect, handle, retain, and share your information when you use our Chrome extension, in compliance with Google Chrome Web Store policies.
We collect the following types of information to provide the Sidewalk service:
Personal Information: When you sign in with Google, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture to identify your account.
User-Generated Content: We collect the comments, replies, and reactions (likes) you manually post.
Website URLs (In-Product Disclosure): To display and anchor relevant comments to the page you are viewing, our extension reads the URL of your active tab. We do not track your general browsing history. The URL is only processed when you actively open the extension sidepanel to view or post comments on that specific page.
Your data is processed and handled exclusively to provide the Sidewalk core functionality:
To securely store and display your comments on the corresponding web pages.
To show your name and avatar next to your comments for contextual interaction.
All data is transmitted securely using industry-standard encryption (HTTPS).
We retain your data based on the following specific policies:
Active Content: Your profile data and active comments are kept as long as your account remains active on our platform.
Deleted or Edited Content: If you delete or edit a comment, the previous version of that comment is retained securely in an internal history table for exactly 30 days for safety, auditing, and moderation purposes, after which it is permanently and automatically deleted.
We absolutely do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third parties for any reason.
We only share your data with the following specific parties to operate the service:
Infrastructure Providers: We share data with Supabase (for secure database storage and backend infrastructure) and Google Identity (strictly to authenticate your login).
Other Sidewalk Users: The comments you intentionally post, along with your name and profile picture, are publicly visible to other Sidewalk users who visit the same URL and open the extension.
Legal Authorities: Your registered email address and comment records will ONLY be shared with official law enforcement authorities upon receipt of a valid, written, and official legal document (such as a warrant or court order). Informal, unwritten, or verbal requests will not be accepted.
