Side Questions lets a user highlight webpage text and ask a follow-up question through an AI provider selected by that user.
## Data handled
- Highlighted text, the user's follow-up question, and bounded follow-up history are sent to the local Side Questions backend.
- When text is selected in a ChatGPT assistant reply, the containing reply may also be sent as context.
- The local backend sends that content only to the AI provider and model selected by the user: Gemini or OpenAI.
- User-entered Gemini and OpenAI API keys are stored in Chrome extension local storage so the extension can restore them after a restart. Keys are sent only to the local backend at `127.0.0.1` and are never sent to the extension developer.
## Data not collected
Side Questions does not operate a developer server, collect analytics, sell or share user data, read website passwords or cookies, access website accounts, or submit website forms.
## Retention and control
The local backend does not persist requests or answers. Users can remove stored API keys at any time with **Forget all keys** in extension settings or by removing the extension. AI providers may retain or process requests according to their own policies and account settings.
## Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact the publisher through the support contact listed on the Side Questions Chrome Web Store page.
