If you want a secure, isolating wired earbud designed for stage monitoring and deep bass that blocks out the world, choose Shure SE215; if you need an open-back over-ear headphone with a wide soundstage and studio-grade accuracy for streaming or critical listening, choose Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva.
• Shure SE215: Delivers professional-grade isolation (up to 37 dB) and a secure over-ear fit with a single dynamic driver; trade-off is its closed design which limits soundstage width compared to open headphones. Best for commuters, musicians, and anyone needing focus in noisy environments.
• Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: Features a massive 50mm driver and open-back architecture for an expansive, life-like soundstage with natural midrange; trade-off is zero noise isolation, meaning it leaks sound and lets outside noise in. Best for audiophiles, podcasters, and streamers in quiet rooms.
The Shure SE215 is built for people who need their audio experience to be entirely their own, regardless of what is happening around them. This is not just about hearing music; it is about hearing details without distraction. The defining feature here is the Sound Isolating Technology, which physically blocks up to 37 dB of ambient noise. Whether you are on a crowded train, working in a busy coffee shop, or standing next to a loud band on stage, this isolation allows you to hear the fine nuances of your track. It creates a private bubble where only the audio matters.
For those using these for streaming or content creation, the SE215 offers a specific advantage: reliability and focus. The wireform cable wraps securely over the ears, keeping the earphones locked in place even during movement. You do not have to worry about them falling out when you turn your head quickly or adjust your gear. The detachable cable with its MMCX connector and 360-degree rotation adds another layer of durability and flexibility, ensuring that daily wear and tear does not compromise your setup. It is a tool designed to withstand professional-level use, making it ideal for someone who needs their equipment to simply work every single time they plug in.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you prefer a sense of "air" in your music or want to hear your surroundings while listening, the SE215 will feel claustrophobic. The closed-back nature means the sound is contained within your ear canal. While the single dynamic MicroDriver delivers clear highs and rich, deep bass, the soundstage is naturally narrower than what you get from an open-back design. Additionally, because it relies on a physical seal, you must find the right fit kit—three sizes of flex and foam sleeves are included—to ensure maximum comfort and isolation. If you cannot get a proper seal, the bass response and noise blocking capabilities will suffer significantly.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva takes a completely different approach, prioritizing acoustic fidelity and spatial realism over isolation. This is an open-back headphone, meaning there are no sealed cups blocking air flow. Instead, the design allows uninterrupted airflow into the headphones, which dramatically enhances the soundstage and imaging. For a streamer looking for deep bass open ear headphones for streaming, this is a compelling choice because it replicates the width of a concert hall right in your room. The sound feels like it is coming from the room around you rather than directly inside your head, creating a more immersive and natural listening experience.
At the heart of this performance is a custom-developed 50mm dynamic driver. This unit uses stronger neodymium magnets and a composite diaphragm made of PU and PEK with an ultra-pure copper ring. The result is a tuning profile that mimics professional studio monitors. The bass hits hard and fast, providing that thumpy kick drum effect without muddying the vocals or instruments. The midrange remains natural and balanced, offering complete accuracy to instruments in their fundamental ranges, while the treble stays clear and transparent with excellent "air." This makes the Altruva an exceptional choice for audio engineers, producers, and gamers who need precise directional cues and accurate tonal representation.
The build quality reflects this premium positioning, utilizing PVD coated steel, wood, and vegan-leather materials. This combination gives the headphones a substantial, high-end feel that distinguishes them from cheaper plastic alternatives. However, the open-back design comes with a significant caveat: it offers no active noise cancellation and very little passive isolation. If you plan to use these in a noisy environment, the outside world will bleed in, and your audio will leak out. They are strictly for quiet spaces. Furthermore, the 98 dB sensitivity suggests they might require a decent amplifier to truly drive the 50mm drivers to their full potential, especially given the 32 ohm impedance. They are not "plug-and-play" for low-power sources in the same way a lower impedance device might be.
• Best for Noise Isolation → Shure SE215: Blocks up to 37 dB of ambient noise, perfect for noisy commutes or busy studios.
• Best for Soundstage Width → Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: Open-back design creates a life-like, wide stereo image impossible to achieve with in-ears.

• Best for Studio Accuracy → Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: Tuned specifically to replicate professional studio monitor profiles with neutral mids and detailed highs.

When I weigh the pros and cons for the average user trying to decide between these two, the decision ultimately comes down to your environment and your goal. If you are looking for best wireless headset for streaming (though both are wired here), you would likely be disappointed, but if you need the most reliable, focused listening experience, the Shure SE215 wins on versatility. However, for the specific use case of for streaming in a dedicated home setup where audio fidelity is the priority, I recommend the Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva. The 50mm driver and open-back architecture provide a level of immersion and detail that the closed-back Se215 simply cannot match. In my opinion, if you can control your noise floor, the Altruva offers a superior musical experience that feels closer to listening through real speakers.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva is excellent for gaming due to its open-back design and precise imaging, allowing you to pinpoint enemy locations accurately. The Shure SE215 is better if you need to block out household noise while playing.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva has a 32 ohm impedance and 98 dB sensitivity, so it may benefit from a dedicated amp to reach its full potential, whereas the Shure SE215's 10 ohm impedance makes it easier to drive from standard devices.
Both are built for durability, but the Shure SE215 features a replaceable cable system designed for heavy road use, while the Altruva uses premium materials like steel and wood that resist wear but are less modular.
Yes, both support wired connectivity via a 3.5mm jack. The Altruva is ideal for recording voiceovers or monitoring mixes in a quiet room, while the Shure is better for on-the-go reporting where isolation is key.
