South Beats Torrance to Maintain #1 Spot!

Another great week for the Spartans, leaving Varsity and FS undefeated sitting in the first place spot, and JV tied for first!

Kutsch's Recap:

FS swept both North and Torrance to finish the first half of league play in first place at 5-0, they then competed at the Whittier Invitational. It was a 13 pool 52 team invitational. They dominated their pool going 3-0 and then defeated St. Lucy's to advance to the semi-finals! Lost to St. Josephs who went on to win the whole tournament. Very proud of the girls for their outstanding effort on this day, and for their continued hard work and improvement since the season started. Great job girls!

Varsity had a well deserved victory over Torrance and then followed it with a win over North to remain in first place. They also traveled to Las Vegas for the 2-day Durango Fall Classic. This tournament is the #1 girls High School Volleyball tournament in the country, with 64 teams from 13 states, and 10 defending state champions! Our Spartans were seeded #4 in the pool, #54 overall. Day 1 started with a 2 set win over Long Beach Poly, the #2 seed in the pool. Then a 3 set win over the #3 seed Bishop Manogue set up a match to win the pool vs powerhouse St Francis. It ended up being an incredible 3 set match, really close in points, but St Francis prevailed. Spartans then started the following day with a 3 set victory over Hockaday, which placed us in the Bronze division bracket, where we lost to eventual Bronze champions Bishop Gorman. Overall tied for 23rd, our girls played so hard, played together, and for each other so much, it was truly an incredible weekend of outstanding volleyball. All of us coaches are so SO proud of how the girls played and competed with the best teams in the nation!

Spartans Battle

Those were some INTENSE games and so fun to watch!!!

Kutsch's Weekly Recap: 8/28 - 9/3

FS was 2-1 for the week with a nice 3-set win over CDM to start the week, and an even better 2-0 victory over PV to finish off Thursday night.

JV was also 2-1, lost a tough 3-setter at CDM and then WON two amazing 3-setters against NDA and PV. The 3rd game at PV finishing at 20-18. A GREAT job by the JV squad.

Varsity had a tough week record wise, but got better every match and battled PV point for point to finish off the week.

A Great Week for the Spartans!

Kutsch's Weekly Recap: 8/21 - 8/27

This past week was a good week for the Spartans.

FS lost their first match of the year Tuesday @ Bishop, but got better as the week went on and swept Peninsula and Chadwick to finish the week 2-1.

JV followed up their tournament win last week with a 3-0 week with 3 sweeps.

Varsity also had a 3-0 week with sweeps of Bishop, Pen, and Chadwick.

We then hosted our first tournament of the year, the South Frosh/Soph Pre-season roundup. A tournament with no playoffs, just lots of games and lots of opportunities for local FS teams to get better. It was a very successful day, our 2 FS teams both got wins and more importantly, got better.
